What should I wear to a wedding in my late 50s?

I'm attending a wedding next month (not been to one in years) and am really struggling to find an outfit. Yesterday, I trawled the length and breadth of Oxford Street and came back with zilch! Most of the dresses I saw were long/baggy/floral which are not my style at all and I would look like a sack of potatoes as I'm not tall. I'm not really a dress person generally and have always favoured a shift/knee length type when I have worn one. I didn't really see anything like that so perhaps they're very out of fashion Not even sure what people wear to weddings these days?!

I'm late 50s (possibly look a few years younger!), 5ft 4, not overweight but not skinny either (size 12), darkish hair. I don't think it'll be massively formal (so no hats). Dress code: be muted, be bold, be brave - the choice is yours! It's in a conference centre type place as opposed to a church or country house and no bride to upstage (2 grooms). Most of the guests will be similar age to myself.

I'm now resorting to online but obviously a risk as you never know what it's like until it turns up. Don't want to spend a fortune, maybe £100 max and ideally something I can wear again. Saw a couple online that look OK (see pics) but really not sure!

Grateful for any inspiration!

Thanks.

What to wear has less to do with your age and more to do with your height and shape.

You need to work out:

  1. what suits your body shape
  2. what colours suit you

and go from there.

I'm 56 so not much younger than you. I know what colours suit me and I generally stick to that palette (that way things go together in my wardrobe). I also know from decades of being me what looks terrible on me and what styles look great so I wear a variation on the flattering outfits styles.

I don't think about my age, I think about what flattering me and what feel good in.

It can be tough when there's so much poorly made shit in the shops though !!
