WWYD TTC and bridesmaid dress

My husband and I have decided to TTC and I am having my copper coil removed in 3 weeks time.

I am a bridesmaid for my cousin in July.

I know the chances are that I won’t be pregnant by July and if I am I obviously won’t be very far along although I do hear of women who experience a lot of bloating etc even when they don’t have a bump.

She has sent through the bridesmaid dresses and they are…not accommodating at all. So now I don’t know what size to order and the shipping time on them is 5 weeks so I need to get a move on so I have time for returns etc.

These are the things I can think of:

  • Order a dress to fit me now and IF I get pregnant order myself a new one at my own expense - problem with this is the 5 week delivery time.
  • Order a dress made to measure with a little bit of extra tummy room just in case (cannot be returned).
  • Order a dress that is slightly too big and nearer the time arrange to have it altered.

Or I am over thinking it? I’m a planner and I’m excited about trying to get pregnant but I don’t want to get ahead of myself necessarily as I know it can take a year even if there are no problems.

I think I'd go for the slightly too big option because it's easier to alter it smaller rather than bigger, but even if you are pregnant it will be so early that you probably won't be much bigger anyway.

You’re not overthinking it! This happened to me when I was bridesmaid for my sister, except I knew I wouldn’t be more than 12 weeks so assumed I wouldn’t have a bump… how WRONG was I!!! Cue a very hairy moment zipping myself into the dress on the day 😭 Thankfully, there was a king of vertical frilling on the front which hid a multitude and I got away with it, but it was a squeeze! Then it happened again for my cousin’s wedding but this time I knew I would be further along… so I bought a second dress in a bigger size. I could have told her but it was still early days. The dress was ‘fit and flare’ I knew the size up would be ok and bump would be accommodated. So in your case, I would go with the slightly too big option and get it altered if needs be.

How stressful!

I absolutely don’t want to tell her we are TTC. If I did happen to be pregnant I might say something ahead of the wedding in case of sickness/ not participating in the morning Prosecco and her wondering why/ my auntie guessing because of the above and drawing attention away from cousin…it’s just not very good timing but I am 33 and ready so I won’t be putting it off just for this 😩

I had something similar, but a guest and I was pregnant. I bought my size and a bigger size and waited the 28 days to make a call and returned one and altered the other. If you're between a 10-12 now I'd order a 12 and 14 and then decide.

If you're pregnant by April you'll have time to order a bigger size if you need. And in May if you get pregnant you might not be much bigger.

I would probably wait to ttc until about May time. That way, it gives your body time to adjust to not having the coil in and also if you were lucky enough to conceive straight away, you wouldn’t be showing anyway.
