Evening guest gift.

What do you usually gift if you are an evening guest?

Or how much money?

If we are daytime guests we usually gift £50.

I'm sure that's probably stingy by some people's standards. But that's what's affordable for us.

Giving half of that as an evening guest doesn't sit right with me.

Would a nice bottle of champagne suffice?

Champagne or very nice wine would be what I would think is acceptable. It’s a tricky one as there seems to be some wealthy people on here but I would be thinking about £25-£30. They will be providing food presumably but you’re bringing the party so to speak. I don’t like weddings anymore, too much pressure and it costs guests a fortune before they even get there.

I dislike weddings for this reason too. It's all just completely out of hand.

I think I'll go with champagne. Anything less than £50 cash seems tacky. But I'm not giving that much if I'm just an evening guest.

Bump just to hear if anyone else has any input.

I'd give £50 in a card.

Latenightreader · 30/09/2025 15:39

I'd give a bottle of wine, although the most recent evening only invite I received specified no presents (and I know they meant it) so I gave a really nice card. I hate giving money - feels like I'm putting a value on our friendship (and I'd struggle afford £50). I much prefer a list or a charity to donate to.

We went to an evening bit recently. Put €100 in a card.
At ours years back, someone gave us a voucher for afternoon tea in a really nice place. It was probably my favourite gift. Something to enjoy after the wedding.

Bottle of fizz and a card in a nice gift bag.

£20-£30

As someone who recently got married, I can assure you the couple do not need anymore wine/champagne/prosecco.

So much wine is left over after weddings.
Cash is more thoughtful and useful.

Do they have a registered list?
Buying a smaller item on their gift register is nicer than another bottle of wine.
