Do I need a NEW dress?

My mum keeps going on about how she can’t wait to go wedding dress shopping with me, I’m getting married next year, and I keep nodding and smiling, but I’ve found 2 dresses I’m in love with on Vinted and they’re £600 and £400

am I going to feel awful in someone else’s dress? which is what she’s saying, or do I just do what I want save money but let my mum down 😟 I know there’s a risk it won’t fit and then I can’t return it but I could always resell in that case. I just know brand new these dresses are going to be double the price and we’re paying for this wedding entirely ourselves out of pocket (no credit)

I think I second hand dress is a lovely idea. I would'nt however spend 400-600 pound on vinted. There just isnt enough protection from scammers. Do you have any local secondhand bridal shops in your area that your mum could go with you too. alternativly just take her with you to try in some dresses. you dont need to buy one. I brought an ex display dress from a brial shop i got it for a fraction of the price and was able to try it on.

Do you have a Wed2Be shop near you?

Their dresses are between £600/900

Lots of lovely dresses to choose from, you might get something you and you and your mum could have the shopping experience.

Or as the previous poster says, an ex display dress, its amazing what the shops can find within your budget.

Ultimately, it's up to you though, it's your day.

Can you look locally at some second hand shops, near where I live we have a store that sells second hand or ex display & all the profits go to providing dream weddings for terminally ill brides, would your mum be up for that, you'd get the trying on dress experience but you'd also get the savings & the environmental benefits.

I managed to get my main dress in a closing down sale & my evening dress off vinted, which felt like the right balance for me (although I know most people aren't as greedy as me & don't need two dresses!)

I only spent £50 on my evening dress though, I'd be very wary of spending £100's on vinted. For one thing, wedding dress sizes are totally random & I fitted into dresses that ranged from a 12 to a 16, so without trying on the brands & styles first it's quite a gamble.

Go to a boutique and have the fun of shopping - preferably one that stocks the brands of the dresses you've seen online so you can see how the sizing is - and then buy one secondhand?

I agree you can still go shopping with her without committing to it, just to see if you like anything?

Alternatively, she could come with you to the seamstress appointments?
