Return the dress?

Me and my other half have been together 10 years, never really discussed getting married before (he was married briefly when very young and I had zero interest in it). However, since having our daughter, I’d starting feeling like it would be nice for our little family. I mentioned I had seen a venue I loved for a small 20 person wedding and he got excited for this (he always said he would ask me, if/when I felt like I wanted to). Anyway, great, we actually went a bit mad that night and put a £100 deposit down for a date next year 😂

We’ve now had some time to sleep on it and think we may have been a bit hasty, money wise, as we are still midway through a house Reno and I’m still on maternity leave, so may put our plans on hold until the following year. However in the meantime, a dress that I have loved went in the sale for half price and I’ve bought it. Shall I be sensible and return it or keep a hold of it for the eventual time? It’s more of a cocktail dress so I can easily put it away till the time and only around £100

Keep it - if you love it then why not?

Thanks, think as my partner said last night ‘sorry, I know you’ve prob already started planning things in your head’ made me think hum might be bit mental to already have a dress 😂😂

Keep it! You’ve found your perfect dress. Enjoy it.

Another vote for keeping the dress!

I’ve done the same. Wedding date not booked, possibly next year or year after. And I found a wonderful dress on Vinted. Got it stashed at the back of the wardrobe 😆

Ahhh brilliant, this makes me feel a lot better 😂 I can be a bit of a pre planner so wasn’t sure if I was a bit crazy 🤪 stashed it in its bag under the bed for the eventual day!

If you really want to be married just pop along to the registry office for a statutory ceremony. and do a meal after. No need for a wedding venue as such.

This is actually what we’ve got planned, but still coming in at around £3000 for the day with registry office fees and minimum spend for the lunch venue currently!

I would go ahead with the wedding. £3,000 for the registry office, a nice venue and 20 guests sounds ideal and not extortionate. You read so many threads on here where people say we were going to get married but never did….

If you’re doing up a house £3k would buy a new boiler or new bathroom, I’d rather spend it on something lovely like a nice intimate wedding.

I’d love to suggest this but our kitchen is currently on the point of being unusable, so having to be boring and sensible to prioritise this! Plus trying to get all the dangerous bits of the house done before baby starts crawling/walking 🥴

Or if I was back at work I’d not think twice, but won’t be back till March next year
