Hiding a corset back that's been added?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a way to disguise a corset back that's been added to make a dress bigger?

Basically I've found a dress that I love with a button back, but it needs to be altered to accommodate my bust and the easiest way is to add a corset back. However I'm not keen on these and would love to maintain the appearance of buttons if possible.

Is the only way to do this to add side panels instead, or could there be a way to add the corset but then have a button panel (I guess) over the top of the corset?

You can definitely hide the corset back element but would need to have enough material to cover it, like these examples, you need to talk to whoever is altering the dress to insert the corset.

Oh thank you, I will take a look at the link.

I think the dress has quite a large train so it could be doable potentially

I’m old enough to remember shapewear being normal, everyday wear and still wear corselettes or OBGs today if I’m going to an event or somewhere fancy.

I'm not anti-corset but I just love the button back on this dress. Ideally I would have been able to get a size up and have it altered down but unfortunately it was in the sale and so only in the one size, which is slightly too small.

I've just never been too keen on the ribboned-up backs on wedding dresses.

If you can get enough material out the train to cover a corset back, couldn't you also use this material to expand the dress itself and not have a corset back? Unless you want the corset back for flexibility on fit?

@Ineffable23 Yes hopefully.

It's not far off fitting so I'm hoping releasing the seam allowance might be enough so having that done shortly.

If it's not enough then I'd much prefer to somehow expand the dress, but I think the only way is to add one or two side panels which apparently can be quite visible. But it's definitely an options.

I'm just hoping the seam allowance plus dieting will be enough!😂

Also it's apparently the difference between about £60 in adding the corset back and a couple of hundred for adding the side panels. So that's a factor too.
