Tips to entertain 2 year old at a wedding

Hi all! It is the first time we are going to a wedding with our 2 year old. It is a family wedding and my in laws will be there and able to help.
I am planning on taking with us:

  • Loads of snacks/fruit pouches
  • A couple of sticker books
  • More stickers
  • Colouring book
  • Crayons
  • Her favourite baby doll (it's a small one)
Is there anything else we should bring to keep her entertained? I am assuming that just seeing the family and being able to run around the grounds will keep her entertained for a bit but I want to be prepared! As far as I know there are other 3 kids (7, 5 and nearly 3)

Thanks!

Small shape sorter I got one for a toddler attending our wedding for £4.

A few small little matchbox type cars always kept our child amused and can be used at the table too.

Ball if there's an outside area

Small bubble tubes (you can get packs of 8ish for about £1 from most pound shops/home bargains or Asda etc in the party aisle) for outside. A pop-it fidget toy. A small book or two? The 'that's not my...' books are good. A small tub of playdough. Plus some of the suggestions mentioned above. I work with children and have 2 small nephews and variety is key haha, the more you've got to switch between, the better! X

One of those reusable "paint with water" books. Melissa and Doug make them. My kids loved those.

I’d avoid any kind of messy play things like play dough, water paint books or bubbles. I would not be pleased to have water, bubbles or play dough on my clothes! Littles ones will end up getting the stuff everywhere, not just outdoors.

At my niece's wedding recently, the littles ones enjoyed playing with balloons on the dance floor, dancing with adults or sitting with an adult to read a book or watch a cartoon on a phone.

All of the OP suggestions sound great, and there might be a swap around of adults who are prepared to do stuff with "the children" for a while outside, the simple games can work - just tossing a bean bag, hide and seek. Although you would hope for the child that loves dancing, and enjoys it all til they drop asleep, inevitably they get tired and want familiar things, then give them them, whatever they might be...a pushchair/blanket is helpful, and don't listen to people who say "that child should be in bed" - I had 4, and the youngest used to stay up all night with the eldest two, but the 3rd used to climb into the pushchair to have a rest (basically go to sleep for the night) and no harm done. x

The whole point of water paint books is they're not messy...they kept my kids entertained for ages on a flight once. You only need a small amount of water in a cup. The worst that can happen is a small amount of water will be spilled. At a typical wedding adults are likely to accidentally spill worse than that!

My kids must have been very messy then! They had a habit of sloshing water onto the page then letting the paint water run down or rub it onto something! Like their hands or face to look like makeup!

Used sensibly and supervised, I’m sure they will be fine!

If you know the other parents, I'd all chip in for a couple of babysitters to entertain/watch them so you can all relax and enjoy yourselves
