Lovely gesture, I received one as a bride, a traditional gift.

dontcallmelen · 21/02/2024 19:30

I received one was many years ago though still have it, a nice gesture.

idontlikealdi · 21/02/2024 19:31

Mil gave me one and made me hold it in photos. Hated it. Tacky.

belgiumchocolates · 21/02/2024 19:42

I am taking my Grandson to a family Wedding. The couple have not asked for gifts as they have eveything. So my idea was to get a really nice card and a keepsake for the little one to give to the Bride

I was given one when we married (many years ago) - really not my thing and I felt guilty as I had to find someone to hold it asap, then it kind of lurked around at home before being binned

I'm getting married in September and would think this very peculiar.

Containergardener · 21/02/2024 20:10

My Gran gave me one after the wedding ceremony, it was an unexpected sweet gesture Smile.

LittleBearPad · 21/02/2024 20:11

Really naff and worse if the bride then has to hold it in the pictures

FusionChefGeoff · 21/02/2024 20:21

Do you know what I loved and was completely unexpected from a work friend?

A photo of us as bride and groom she'd taken on the day, printed, framed the next day and sent 1st class.

The real photos take FOREVER, you get swamped with social media / digital ones but a real life momento is treasured and that one is still on our mantelpiece!!

I have my mum's from her wedding. My mum died at a very young age and I thought it would be nice to give it to my niece at her wedding but I was told (very nicely) that she didn't want it. I assumed from her reaction that they aren't given anymore.

Mudflaps · 21/02/2024 20:26

I was given one, it was never opened and its in the attic with other forgotten about stuff. It looked like something from the 70's but was 2008. What I did love was a banner made of A4 sheets taped together saying Congratulations, our names and the date and coloured in by my bridesmaids daughters, I didn't know about it until I entered the church and it was pinned across the noticeboard, it was bright and cheerful and just a lovely thing to see.

I'm glad you found out before you gave it to her. Hold on to it for another family member who will treasure it Flowers

Aw my niece gave me one on our wedding day, it was sweet! To be fair I had an actual horseshoe from my horse fixed to my bouquet, bloody heavy but I loved that he was part of it, so I think my SIL knew something like that would be appreciated.

rong · 21/02/2024 20:58

I got a little ceramic horseshoe and it's one of the only presents I got (others were money) I love it
