Wedding breakfast ideas

To keep it short DP and I are getting married 24.08.24. We have now decided that rather than guests traipsing from registry office to pesto for lunch to the reception in the evening we may have a wedding breakfast at the reception venue depending on the cost per head. We have starter ideas and desert ideas sorted, however if anyone could think of some budget friendly main ideas it would be appreciated.

We did think of something like a roast but we were unsure as so often we have been to weddings where the roast spuds looked anemic and the veg was barely cooked. We will have one vegetarian and one person that does not eat beef.

DP suggested sausages as not beef and can easily substitute to vegetarian option, personally not sure if that would go down well with guests. Depends on what it's with I guess.

Sausages are not very...celebratory?

Not sure what to suggest but I wouldn't thank you for sausages on a random weeknight for tea!

Have you asked to see their menus? You might find they only offer certain options so find out before setting your heart on something.

I agree that often a mass produced roast for a wedding breakfast can often not be great, I’d rather have tapas tbh, much tastier :)

We have an evening pizza food truck organised. I asked the venue for a quote per head thinking they would provide a list of options at different price points. Instead they said to arrange to pop in after the bank holiday which is fine but as I am off work this week wanted to get the invites designed and start to work out a budget.

I know they may have menus to go from, however if they don't then it would be good to go in with a ew ideas to put across.

I would think they'll have options to show you. I've never heard of a venue that will just cook up whatever you fancy.

We had

chicken chicken Caesar salad with a vegetarian option for the veggies and it was GF

Beef fillet with dauphinois and vegetables, GF, veggies had roast vegetable tart tatin

Strawberry Mille feuille (sp) and lemon posset for the GF

They want you to go in and see them to try and talk you into the more expensive options!

Edthehorse · 21/08/2023 17:21

Haven't they got a website with menus on?

Ponderingwindow · 21/08/2023 17:29

If the venue offers catering, they will have a pre-established menu and a system in place for you making selections. Unless you are spending major cash, you don’t really go in and curate your own menu from scratch.

I hate a big stodgy meal at a summer wedding. I’d much rather have afternoon tea or a bbq.

JustAnotherManicMomday · 21/08/2023 22:28

We have an ice cream van coming in the evening after the pizza food truck.

I read this as you were getting married 24.8.23 and I was thinking “what, this Friday?!”

You will need to chat to the venue as they might only have set menus for you to choose from. Personally I don’t mind a mass produced roast but I really wouldn’t go for sausages.

Something like chicken supreme?

ohcrums · 22/08/2023 20:26

Roast is a classic- it always goes down well.

But if you don't want that beef Wellington or salmon en croute also go down well

Oh if they do their own food you won't get a choice. Or it will be choice of 3 of what they say.
