Wedding period nightmare

Getting married next month and I’m due to be on the second day of my period on my wedding! My periods are quite bad and the second day is the worst for me.

I’ve got Norethisterone to delay it but just a bit worried as I don’t react well to hormones and don’t want to be a raging mad woman on the day😅
Bit of back ground - I had to be taken off all hormonal contraception at 19 as it was making me suicidal, irrational and generally made me a completely different person to be around.

Has anyone who’s taken it before found their next cycle was delayed too? Clutching at straws hoping I can get away taking them this month instead to knock my cycle back a few days.

I took norethisterone at the end of June/start of July and then my period started on day 3 after they finished (took last one on 8th July and period started 11th July). I am now waiting on my period to start and that will have been a full cycle since the start of the delayed period rather than counting from when my period would originally have been due.

I'd definitely take them this month, just to see how you react to them. Then get another set for next month.

dementedpixie · 05/08/2023 13:40

She'll maybe not need more for next month if she deals this months period for long enough.

Delays*

I was 4 weeks pregnant when planning my wedding so didn't even think of period being an issue. I miscarried late at 16 weeks and then period turned up on my wedding day. It was very difficult. I had tampon in, pad in case of leaks, spanx on to hold me in. Large hoop petticoat thing then big wedding dress. Going to the loo to wee and change tampon took me about 20 minutes. If you can take something to delay your period do it.

Ladyoftheknight · 05/08/2023 14:09

How old are you now? It might be worth discussing hormonal birth control with your GP, if you're much older than 19 now, or you've had a pregnancy since then you might react better to it.

Hopefully you can delay it for the big day, if not, get some good period pants and a bin bag to step into to hold your dress off the loo!

I'd take it the wedding month as well just to be sure. But only if side effects are not an issue.

Wigmic · 05/08/2023 14:50

@dementedpixie Ooo that’s promising! I think I’ll take them this month and see how I go. Did you find you had any side affects when taking it?

@caringcarer I’m so sorry for your loss, that must have felt like a kick in the teeth after everything. Sadly my dress is slinky satin number so there’s nowhere to hide in that….serves me right for booking everything and getting the dress so early on when my cycle was different!

@Ladyoftheknight I’m late 20s now with no previous pregnancy’s. I got the copper coil once I met DP and it’s served me well so far. Period pants are such a good shout thank you!

I took one single norethisterone tablet when I wanted to delay my period before my wedding, and ended up at the out-of-hours GP with side effects! I had a numb arm and weird vision changes from what I remember - like you, I react strongly to hormones.

However, the good news was that even that one tablet delayed my period by 3 or 4 days so it had the desired effect!

LynnBenfieldAP · 05/08/2023 15:14

I took those tablets before and it turned me into a different person for about a week! It was horrendous I swore off ever having anything hormonal added to my body ever again after it!

If you have the opportunity to test them before hand I definitely would, it was only after they'd gone from my system that I realised how unstable they made me!

dementedpixie · 05/08/2023 15:27

I never had any side effects from them and took them for 10 days.

Saywhanow · 05/08/2023 15:47

For pain relief I recommend neuromol. It's paracetamol and ibuprofen combined. I used it post c section and it does last a good six hours.

You can buy it anywhere. Alternatively you can just take two paracetamol and two ibuprofen but I find having these means I'm covered for the majority of the day for pain, without having to take lots of different pills.

Also ibuprofen does reduce blood flow, not by loads but it definitely curbs the worse of my period if I take it the moment I come on and stay on top of it.

Just saying this if you are on your period on the day of your wedding.

jamaisjedors · 05/08/2023 15:51

Definitely take them the month before and then your following cycle will be delayed too and you won't have the side effects (bloating, nervy, hormonal for me) around your wedding.

I did this last year as i had a festival one month and then an active holiday booked for the following month and my period would have come during both.

It worked for me, just needed to delay my period by about 3 days and then it was shifted forward.

Good luck.

Dinosaurus86 · 07/08/2023 11:35

How does the bin bag trick work @Ladyoftheknight - do you cut a hole in the bottom? I’m worried about the same thing for my wedding in a few months (I should also have been pregnant @caringcarer so I feel your pain).
