When do book florist?

My wedding is in about 8.5 months.

I have booked the venue, registrar, catering, DJ, photographer, wedding cars.

The only major vendor I haven’t booked is the florist and for some reason I’m putting it off although I don’t know why.

People have told me that florists don’t need to be booked as far in advance as other vendors but how late is too late? Can I put it off until October?

Why would you put it off, the good ones will book up and they can only do some many in a day

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 06/07/2023 19:31

Do it now if you want decent flowers on your actual wedding day.

weddingwaiting · 06/07/2023 19:31

@UsernameNotAvailableArghh i honestly don’t know I just have this big block about doing it🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Any chance that it's if planning ends then you actually have to do?

You sure your sure about the wedding op?

weddingwaiting · 06/07/2023 19:53

@Mommasgotabrandnewbag definitely sure about the wedding, he’s the absolute love of my life but thank you for asking!

I think it’s more than flowers aren’t really a priority for me, I’m not that bothered about them if that makes sense?

Then don't have any, they're not compulsory

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 06/07/2023 20:15

Oh and glad to hear it!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/07/2023 20:22

I'm a florist.

It depends on a few factors. We normally don't want to see you until you've got stuff in place like dress, bridesmaids dresses and a colour scheme in place. Flowers are used to pull all the other elements together, so no point in doing it too early unless you are just booking space in the diary.

Secondly - how many flowers do you need? Will it be pick up or delivery? A small wedding where you're relaxed about what you want and can be flexible I can do with a couple of days notice. A bigger wedding that needs installations at church/ venue and pick up and disposal afterwards will need me to book extra drivers/ florists for the day which I'd hope to do a couple of months in advance so I can carve out time in the diary and have enough staff to not just make your wedding flowers but also run the shop.

Pick a florist and go in for a chat as soon as you can go see what the lie of the land is. You don't always need a physical shop either, Google freelance wedding florists in your area and you're more likely to find people who can fit you in.

We only had buttonholes and a small bouquet

weddingwaiting · 06/07/2023 20:40

@LadyOfTheCanyon thank you that is helpful. Tbh I only want a bouquet for myself a bridesmaids and buttonholes for DP, his groomsmen and my brothers

No problem. Most florists should be able to fit you in for a wedding that size with a couple of weeks notice unless they are absolutely inundated with work.

Unbridezilla · 07/07/2023 14:36

Depends what you want, for me they are a priority (I love growing flowers, visiting gardens etc as a hobby)

British grown and sustainable (eg no flower foam) was also a priority, so I booked a local florist who is also a flower farmer ASAP.

But if you just want a couple of button holes then you should be OK. Although, if it's playing on your mind, why not just get it done? Walk into your local florist shop this weekend and ask them if they can sort you out.

Hairgician · 09/07/2023 15:50

Im only having bouquets for myself moh and bm. And buttonholes. Mix of artificial and preserved. Added in a spray for the candles at alter last week to my order. Not bothered about flowers. Dm not impressed i went with artificial so has ordered her own buttonholes for her and df instead of wearing what i ordered.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 09/07/2023 15:54

If you aren't bothered about the flowers (i wasn't) we did artificial, i couldn't bear to waste that much money on flowera that would be dead by the end of the day!

I’ve made an appointment with a florist for a few weeks time 😂

I couldn’t get the florist I wanted because they were already booked 18 months in advance.

weddingwaiting · 24/07/2023 21:42

@Abigailandthefoxes wow! I don’t care that much really it’s all kind of the same to me so I don’t mind not being able to have the person I want. I have a meeting on Thursday to meet with one though!

I wasn’t overly fussed to be honest and the florist I’ve got was recommended by them and is great.

flowers aren’t a big deal for us but I just want everything organised and sorted so I can relax.

atemple492 · 10/10/2023 09:51

Hi I have seen you have booked with the florist now but we had paper flowers and they were stunning! A lot cheaper and now a keepsake. This was in May 2022 we got married and I have attached a photo of my bouquet. Just something to consider if you are not overly bothered about them this is an alternative much cheaper option.

Bridal Bouquet - sunflowers - blue mini flowers (jasmin) harry potter book rose and gypsophelia (modern for my notes) 18 stems
3 bridesmaids bouquets - smaller versions of above just roses and sunflowers with out jasmin and gyps
16 buttonholes - harry potter bud rose on stem with green leaves

The total for the above inc pp was £387. I hope this helps.
