White fascinator at a wedding..

SamE1995 · 02/07/2023 15:41

I am attending a wedding in two weeks time and I am wearing a pink and white dress

I know you shouldn't wear white to a wedding but can you wear white shoes and a white fascinator or this not appropriate either?

OP posts:

don wear a fascinator at all - they are terribly dated.

Passerillage · 02/07/2023 15:43

Sorry, that should have read DON’T. 😳

WhatADrabCarpet · 02/07/2023 15:51

I'm of the opinion that fascinators are for royal garden parties and Royal Ascot.

They seem very dated now .

Sorry to be of no help whatsoever.

FarTooHotForMe · 02/07/2023 15:53

How about a pink one?
I like them, they are fun to wear?

JTS99 · 02/07/2023 15:54

You can literally wear any colour fascinator other than white

Wear whatever you want.

JorisBonson · 02/07/2023 15:57

Yeah they are kind of naff now.

daisychain01 · 02/07/2023 16:00

Well I wore a fascinator at a family wedding recently and was told how nice I looked and that it suited me! And 2 other guests also wore them (none of us wore white though), so I don't agree they're outdated they're in the shops (JL, Sainsbury Tu range, Accesorize). Saved me buying a new outfit, I just bought a blue fascinator and it went perfectly.

If the main colour of your outfit is pink OP you should be fine although if you haven't bought it yet can you buy a pink one?

daisychain01 · 02/07/2023 16:02

"kind of naff" hmm not even sure what that means but whatever. It's an affordable way to dress up an outfit and for those of us who don't suit a hat or whose hair gets crushed under a hat, it does a lot less damage.

MissChanandlerB0NG · 02/07/2023 16:06

Don't wear white. You're pushing it with the pink and white dress tbh

MaggieBsBoat · 02/07/2023 16:07

Fascinators are actually very cool. The naff comments make me laugh. Clearly not enough people attend Garden Parties on Mumsnet.
i would avoid white though. A contrasting pink?

FarTooHotForMe · 02/07/2023 16:26

Depending on the dress you could go bold and for example wear orange/red shoes or bag and Fascinator.

Firefinch · 02/07/2023 16:28

Such ridiculous comments on here. A white fascinator is completely fine. I've been to three weddings this summer and there have been a few ladies with fascinators some of which were white or ivory. No problem at all, and clearly not trying to emulate the bride.
And the OP did not ask 'should I wear a fascinator or are fascinators naff' so not sure why people are chiming in with those comments. Fascinators are a bit of fun and a way to dress up an outfit a bit. Ok not to everyone's tastes, but thank heavens we don't all like the same thing.
OP wear your white fascinator, and enjoy your day.

AmilyChestnut · 02/07/2023 16:30

Can we see the dress please?

I think that, I also think
anything goes nowadays. I just returned from
a weekend wedding and saw such a mixture of outfits. A few guests wore dresses with clumpy sandals/trainers and they looked really good.
I wore a large Fascinator and got lots of compliments, a few guests said they’d wished they worn theirs. I’m glad I went for it.

sausagelastrange · 02/07/2023 16:34

Go for it. Wear what you feel good in (disclaimer *)

  • I have never understood the thing about not being able to wear anything white to a wedding. Utterly ridic but that's just me.
Tired82 · 02/07/2023 16:34

I would personally go for something other than white to move away from the white in your dress and make you look more 'guest' if that makes sense.

catwithflowers · 02/07/2023 16:35

A proper hat is what you need 😂. I love a good hat! I wore a black one yesterday at a wedding 😍

Whataretheodds · 02/07/2023 16:35

White headgear is fine especially if that's what you already have
Fascinators aren't particularly fashionable now - hat or headband would be more so, but noone's going to faint if you wear one.
Would you like to post a pic of the dress?

WhamBamThankU · 02/07/2023 16:35

Why are you wearing a dress with white in it?

Harshbutfair · 02/07/2023 16:37

White shoes ok

White fascinator absolutely not. If the bride has gone for something that looks remotely similar in her hair you'll be feeling awkward all day. Why risk it? Just get a different colour or don't bother.

yipeeyiyay · 02/07/2023 16:50

It's kind of funny how people who clearly have no clue about fashion start announcing that something is dated. Often they are lagging about 10 years behind current trends. Fascinated vary enormously. They aren't dated if they aren't a dated design.

@yipeeyiyay those aren't fascinators. They're hats.

That are all from articles literally about fascinators. That's the problem. People don't have a clue what they are. These are all held on by a clip or a headband. That makes them fascinators.

keyboardkat · 02/07/2023 17:01

If they called them something other than "fascinator" they'd be a sell out.

I think they are fab for things like weddings. No hat hair, no worries about it blowing off in the wind, and completes the outfit for a special occasion.

The other no no seems to be pashminas. Again why? They are often perfect accompaniments for a posh/special occasion. What do you use instead? a varied length blazer ( my mother wore them and I personally don't suit them), a cardigan? for a special occasion, oof. A light pashmina/silky shawl can be just right, and they fold up to nothing for your little handbag if not needed. Where do I put my jacket/blazer/cardigan please, I'm roasting here!
