Options for coeliac guests in the evening

Hi everyone, I’m new here.
Im looking for some advice for our fast approaching wedding. We’re having a pizza van, providing a pizza per guest from 8.30pm, after a 3 course meal from 4pm. The pizza van has told us they can’t cater for coeliacs due to the risk of cross contamination. I’d like to make my coeliac guests involved and have done some research to find that Dominoes offer Coeliac UK certified gluten free pizzas, which feels like the best option I’ve found so far. Any thoughts on this or alternative suggestions? The venue won’t cater for just 4 guests as they aren’t providing the pizzas. If helpful for reference, all of the coeliac guests are our friends in their late 20s.

Gluten Free Dominoes sounds like the perfect solution to me. Just make sure their pizzas are not put out with the general ones, you wouldn't believe how many people will nick the "vegan/gluten free/dairy free/veggie option" at a wedding if it's near them.

That sounds fine, but definitely keep it away from the rest of your guests. I am still upset about the evening food at a wedding last year where the tray of gluten free bacon rolls was devoured before I got anything to eat. They didn’t even have gluten free bread left to make some more. The other guests also ate all the gluten free cake ☹️

Suggest you speak to a couple of your coeliac friends and ask their opinion. I wouldn't normally order dominoes but if it's a choice between that and going hungry then OK.

hettiethehare · 26/06/2023 09:46

DS would be very happy with this if everyone else is having pizza - just make sure they are kept separate and also they have separate dips to prevent cross contamination.

Rather than labelling stuff as vegan or gluten or diary free food put aside should be labelled as " for Freddie and June only - specific dietary needs"

Because so many people actually chose to eat that way even without allergies

CMOTDibbler · 26/06/2023 09:47

I'd ask your GF guests what they would like. The Dominos pizzas are tiny btw and rather hard, plus your guests would have to eat at a defined time rather than choosing like everyone else. Personally if I wasn't finishing dinner until 6 then I would rather have a GF snack bag with some goodies in that I could pick at when ready rather than cold pizza

SoupDragon · 26/06/2023 09:50

Pizza Express do coeliac approved pizzas too. They seem to be the pizza of choice for the one I know. Proper sized too.

gogomoto · 26/06/2023 09:54

I would speak to them and suggest either the gf pizza option or a snack bag - personally I would prefer crackers cheese and grapes after a full meal

Jins · 26/06/2023 10:03

The best takeaway GF pizzas are Pizza Express. The one I went to told me that they only have GF flour in the kitchen so no cross contamination issues.
I don’t rate Dominos for size, taste or texture
Decent pizza is very hard to replicate - I’ve been trying for years to make a reasonable base.
I second talking to the guests.

Harp1977 · 26/06/2023 10:13

Allergies here as well, I second speaking to the people and seeing what they would like, I personally would not eat the gf take away pizza as there has always been enough cross contamination to make me ill. On saying that, I am particularly sensitive, and even a lot of gf foods in America are not gluten free enough for me. A snack box of pre prepared foods might be better.

ninjafoodienovice · 26/06/2023 11:32

I second pizza express gf pizzas way above the dominos ones which are tiny and gross

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/06/2023 11:37

Definitely keep them practically under lock and key. Because some greedy fucker will steal them if they think somebody might be getting something special. And then bin it because 'it tastes shit'.

Thanks for all of your advice! We’ve approached each of our 4 coeliac guests individually to ask for their order and they’re more than comfortable and really pleased that we’ve gone the extra step to make sure they’re catered for. We’ve given one of our wedding party the job of pre-ordering in the morning and making sure there’s an announcement in the evening when they arrive rather than putting them out. Great advice!
On pizza express - we’re slightly in the sticks for our reception so I’m just pleased there’s a Domino’s close enough!
