Hello, I am getting married towards the end of the year but a close family member is very unwell and has been told they will no longer be with us by then :( So partner and I are looking at doing something in the very near future so that they can be there (planned celebration at end of year will go ahead as planned)

We wanted to get legally married but aware that the latest papers can be submitted is a month before the date. Is this legally binding or can it be "flexible" in extreme circumstances (concerned that a month may be too long and he won't make it to then) I have emailed National Records Scotland but I know they are busy and may take some time to come back to me so thought someone on here may know

Plan B is some kind of blessing and continue with the legal wedding as already planned but it would be nice if he could see us legally married.

Appreciate any help... I am in Scotland

I'm so sorry. I think it can be rushed in exceptional circumstances, but I think that may be where one of the couple has a terminal illness, I'm not sure whether they'd do it for a close relative. Have you called the registry office in the council area you want to get legally married in? If not I'd do that immediately and see what they say
