Finding a wedding dress for June 2024 when I will be 6 months post-partum...

Has anyone any advice on this? Should I even bother trying to get a dress now given how much my body is likely to change? I'm 7 weeks pregnant at the moment. My assumption is that I could go for a floaty dress (A Line) with a structured bust, and get it tweaked accordingly before the big day?

Thank you!

You’ll be pretty much back to normal at 6months. I was and friends and family too. Unlikely to be as fit as you are now. I was skinny fat, I fact scrawny as a lost too much weight. But, still had my big boobs which was a blessing.

What was your body like pre pregnancy?

I was in the same boat and bought my dress in March wedding was in May baby was born in January. I went for a corset tie up as you can have a bit of leeway doing it up.

Thanks for this both @yepgoingforarun @Thelonelychicken

@yepgoingforarun I'm a slim size 12 - 5'7. Fingers crossed!

I was back to normal within a few weeks both times so me personally, I'd go for whatever style I would usually like.

Well then no need to concern yourself. 6 months PP most are back to pre or pretty close. And those that aren’t are either slimmer than before and possibly scrawny as I was or they’re struggling to shift the pounds because they’re struggling to stop eating “for two” (not that you should or need to “eat for two” during pregnancy!)

Are you buying off the rack? Or bespoke?

of off the rack from monsoon or coast etc then why not just wait until much closer to the time

Lululumpkin · 26/05/2023 16:43

@yepgoingforarun Off the rack but likely from a bridal boutique which would require alterations etc. I guess I'm worried about leaving it too close to the wire! And not sure how I'd feel trying it on in the months leading up to the wedding when my body probably won't be back to normal yet.

Wedding dresses are really forgiving. Even if your not back to normal by the time you try them on you'll still find one that works. There is so many styles. Don't panic and enjoy it 😊

I wasnt back to normal! I was still about half a stone heavier and it took a lot of exercise to shift that last 7 pounds. BUT pp are right - wedding dresses are forgiving. I ordered my dress about 4 months before wedding... cutting it close but no problems so far...

FYI If you breastfeed your baby it’s common to be unable to shift the last 7-15lb of babyweight until you stop breastfeeding cause of the hormones. You also may still be wider/broader/different shape until you stop breastfeeding cause of hormones too.

if you plan on FF then you’ll probably be back to normal though as long as you don’t go too wild on the post-natal cream cakes 😉
