Who traditionally acts as witnesses

We're deciding who should act as the witnesses at our wedding and I was wondering if there's a tradition of who acts as witnesses? We were thinking our mums or a bridesmaid and the best man.

Our vicar pushed us to use our mums, personally I would have thought best man and maid of honour would have been the done thing.

Maid of honour and Best Man.

I thought bridesmaid and bestman.

We chose our mums as it felt like they didn’t have a specific thing to do on the day. Our siblings were all maid of honour, bridesmaids or best man. My dad walked me down the aisle and gave a speech. FIL did a reading in the ceremony. It was a nice way to involve them both.

Entirely up to you.

DH asked FIL and I asked MIL she said said no!

Ah well!

i don't think there is a rule/tradition? We had our siblings (we only had one each so was fairly straightforward) as DH had his best mate as best man, so was to make his DB feel included then my sibling to make it 'equal'.

I was going to say either the two Mums, or the Bridesmaid and best man

It is really personal to your own circumstances.
We had our two Mums, as felt that Mums don't really get 'a role' in the day, but it is really personal to your circumstances. It really can be anyone...... maybe a sibling who doesn't have another role, or a close friend.
