Hi all
I'm in the very early stages of wedding planning. The ceremony will be in a small non religious venue. I'd like a friend of mine to do the service but he's not qualified to actually officially marry us. So my question is...can he do that I've we have a registrar on site? Can the registrar just witness it or say the official words? Or would we have to get legally wed on a day before or after and the actual wedding day just be for show? It's not about cost, I would just rather this particular friend officiated than a stranger....

If you want it to be legally binding, the registrar has to officiate.

Is it an approved premise for marriages? As Tea Story says, if you want this to be your legal marriage the registrars have to officiate. Your friend could do something after they have left. The alternative is to have your legal ceremony at the register office and you friend perform fake ceremony at your venue?

We have had it many times (we are a wedding photography and videography company). But the previous comments are correct. The registrar has to do the 'legal' part for the marriage to be legal. I do love it when a friend leads the service; it is almost always more genuine and beautiful.
