My wedding is September 2023.
I got engaged June 2022.

I have already:
Chosen and booked venue
Chosen and paid deposit for my dress
Had a meeting with venue dresser and paid deposit
Ditto for photographer
Chosen videographer and paid deposit
Chosen colour scheme
Designed DIY invites, signs, table plan, kids activity packs
Watched every fucking episode of say yes to the dress, 4 weddings etc etc that I can find.

Things I still have to do:
Suit shopping (but that's him not me and can't happen until closer the time)

Bridesmaids dress shopping (can't happen until closer to the time as 4 junior bridesmaids and they grow so fast, also will be ordering online due to budget)

Flowers (hoping that a family friend will offer to do them as she has offered in the past but no offer as yet since engagement announced. Totally fine but no point looking at flowers if she will do them as our present)

I am looking ag 10 empty months with nothing wedding related to do.

Now this may sound crazy but my dad died just after I got engaged and I have been using planning the wedding as a way to occupy my thoughts. I NEED something to do or I will fall apart.

Is there anything I have forgotten? Anything I can occupy myself with to do with the wedding?

You need to let yourself grieve otherwise there is a risk you'll implode before/after the wedding.

IDontHaveTimeForFoolishness · 20/10/2022 10:31

I'm so sorry for your loss OP.Flowers

I don't want to bring you down, but I'm worried for you. Your wedding is going to be a huge milestone especially poignant as your dad is not there. Perhaps find a grief counselor to help you process his loss (and perhaps others too). There will be times during the day where it will be hard with him not being there, and although you want to be respectful of his absence you will also want to be happy and celebrate your day without feeling guilty. Please OP look into this. x

Plan a honeymoon - maybe a spreadsheet with various options, fully costed out and with hotel links etc.

This is my happy/calming activity

If there are children coming to the wedding, what about designing activity books for them? I bought some for my nephews for my wedding from Etsy, so you could look there for ideas to get you started.

Largethighsbadeyes · 20/10/2022 10:57

I did the kids activity packs last week. Great way to spend a couple of hours.

The photo timeliness is a great idea I'll get started on that.

And fitness plan is an excellent and much needed idea!! 👌

Love the idea of icebreaker questions for the tables. There was a TV show with something like that there were icebreaker questions and games to play at dinner parties, I think it was called "I'll get this" I'll have to Google it for ideas.

I'm not ignoring the comments about processing my grief. I just don't know what to say in response. But I know you're all correct. I will consider grief therapy. It has been offered.

Hi, maybe check with your venue, petals are obviously natural and biodegradable so a lot of places do allow them. Paper confetti is obviously a completely different issue, I don't know of anywhere local to me that allows it but dried petals or rice seem to be widely acceptable.
All the best OP and 🤞you can make your own confetti with petals/ rice x

Largethighsbadeyes · 21/10/2022 12:28

Checked with the venue, definite no on confetti. Never mind

WEDDING INSURANCE

Can't stress it enough.

7catsisnotenough · 22/10/2022 08:12

Not even petals?! 😭

How about rice??? You could do rice in your colour scheme or rainbow coloured...

I'll try to come back with something that isn't confetti...

Have you organised some entertainment? Both for adults and for children?

Have a look for a magician, a juggler, fire walk, a children's entertainer, a photo booth maybe a treasure hunt.

Seating plan.

Are you giving the tables numbers or names?

Is there anything you would like to take from the wedding for when / if you have children?

I went to a naming ceremony where the aunty of the baby did a reading from the wedding.

Are you having a guest book to sign?

Hen night/weekend/week? Where will you go an what will you do. Mountain biking? Party? Paint gun? Riding?

Transport?

Gifts for the bridesmaids / groomsmen/best man/ushers.

Gifts for parents?

OK that should keep you going even if you don't have any of these on the day you can still research.

Largethighsbadeyes · 24/10/2022 12:38

Nope not even petals! The only thing they allow is bubbles but my dress is Satin and I'm envisioning lots of little circular bubble stains...no thanks!

@sashh
We are doing a photo treasure hunt for the kids for the bit in between the ceremony and meal. So they will have a list of things to find/take photos of. Prizes for the most found/best pictures. Having 2 teams with an older kid with a mobile phone in charge of taking the photos and watsapping them to me. Cheaper than disposable cameras and we can award prizes on the day.

For adults we will do a bit of a quiz on the tables, prizes for the winning table.

Both these things are on my still to do list. Looking forward to it 😀

Seating plan, table names and welcome sign all done.

Hen do will be very low key and planned by MOH

No transport needed

Gifts I will add to my list to research.

Thanks 👍
