Wedding location - fiji vs Thailand?

Hello mums!

So we're planning on getting married in 2 years time, I'm from uk and partner is from Australia- both currently living in Australia with 2 young kids.

We would love to get married in fiji as we know the resort and have been there before, cost is pretty reasonable and seems fairly stress free! However it is around a 30 hour flight from uk, and tickets are soo expensive meaning a lot of my family may not be able to join...

We're considering Thailand too, as it seems more centrally located between the two.

Has anyone had a Thai wedding? Any recommendations/thoughts on fiji vs Thailand?

TYIA!

What time of year? Have you checked what the weather is likely to be like then? I have no experience of Fiji but Thailand can be miserable during rainy season which is almost half the year! Also, a 30 hour flight for guests would be pretty unreasonable so you might need to consider having very few guests if you choose Fiji.

Ahh, so you're inviting family from both Australia and UK? Halfway point would make sense... Thailand at Christmastime? If family would be happy to give up their Christmas for a wedding though. Or a wedding in either Australia OR UK and a family celebration in the other?

So there's a cost of living crisis going on in Aus and the UK at the moment. Are you sure asking people to travel to your wedding is a good idea? You might end up with no-one attending 🤐

I think either have it in Aus (easier for you to organise) or the UK and then you have a party for those that couldn't attend in the country the wedding wasn't in.

Honestly I've been to Fiji and Thailand, love them both. But I'd not pay $$ to attend a wedding.

I’d do two celebrations where you fly to UK for the second. Maybe have the official do in Aus for ease of organisation. It’s just such a big ask for people.

We got married in Thailand! It was amazing! Our families and friends joined us for 5 days beforehand and now all get on amazing.

It worked out perfectly, we didn't have any expectations that people had to attend, and understood if people declined. We had about 70 people in the end - lots of notice given!

Check out Kathathani Resort - highly recommend them!

We had friends from the UK but working in Australia when they got married - they effectively had 2 weddings - one in each country. Unless you have pretty well-off family and friends, or you're paying for them, I think you risk not having many people at your wedding
