Can you leave fascinator hat during lunch/dinner?

Silly question but sure a lot of people ask - As mother of bride and wedding guests, is it okay to leave hat-fascinator on while seated down for dinner/wedding breakfast/lunch? Or should we take it off as if we were taking a jacket off? It is not a huge hat but fasciantor which is part of the dress outfit.

Yes you can leave it on. Fascinators are often pinned in so not easily removed.

Leave it on as long as it's not liking anyone next to you in the eye

Fascinator, yes, hat, no. Rude to wear a hat indoors (though fine for photos if weather outside is crap).

Hat or fascinator you leave them on all day.

Traditionally you don't remove your hat/fascinator until the mother of the bride does... but these days I don't think it matters a bit.

So if you are the mother of the bride and take yours off, don't be surprised to see lots of your guests doing the same Grin

Yes, fine for both

It's gentlemen who are required to remove headgear indoors. Ladies can keep hats on, and indeed pre-1960s nearly always did (unless making themselves at home in a metaphorical sort of way)

But yes, you need to consider the impact on others if it is a wide-brimmed hat or it has sticky out bits (it's why cocktail hats are small - they are designed to be worn indoors)

Thank you all! "Cocktail hat" is more appropriate as the fascinators are beautiful hair decorations rather than a proper hat. Will definately keep it on, especially the price I paid! 😄.

Etiquette says no female guest removes her headwear before the mother of the bride does so.
Brings back a lovely memory of a wedding years ago in a city chambers with numerous window sills and embrasures containing busts and sculpture. By the end of the meal, every bust/statue sported at least one hat. Grin
