How many drinks per person?

Evening all

Getting married in September and we are providing our own drinks 😀

How many glasses/ bottles of wine would you recommend to provide per person for the wedding breakfast? Would half a bottle be enough per perison? & should we get more white than red wine? I only drink white but wonder if people would prefer red with their meal ..

Also how many Proseccos for the welcome drinks & toast? 🙈

They also said we are only allowed 1 type of non alcoholic drink for the welcome drinks & toast.. what would you recommend? Orange juice or?

Thanks all xx

We are doing sparkling apple juice and elderflower for non alcoholic toasts if that helps

Half bottle all night? that's two glasses..... if just for the dinner, then fine, otherwise - nope

travailtotravel · 14/04/2022 20:51

You'll get 5 glasses out of a bottle of fizz for the toasts (you can get better than prosecco but not as expensive as champers ...)
Wine, depending on your friend's tbh and how long the wine lasts. Is it just with dinner and then paid bar? I'd still allow at least 1 bottle pp. I think we got 5 bottles between 3 people ... then whether it's more red than white depends on the meal and time of year.

Surely you're only providing drinks during the meal, welcome drink and toasts and not providing drinks all night?
Toasts and welcome drinks - 1 per person for each plus 10% extra for the guzzlers.
If providing wine for just the breakfast meal, half a bottle each is fine. I'd say equal split red/white.
If providing drinks all night - you need a lot more.

Is this the drinks all day & evening, or just wines for the meal. I think we did half a bottle per person but as the venue supplied the wine, we didn't need to worry about the red/white ratio and we didn't have to consider wine running out. If your wine will be all the tine, I would allocate far more wine than a half bottle. If the wine you are supplying is all of the wine, I'd be tempted to put it all out on the table. I went to a wedding where they worked really well and guests made friends trading a bottle of red for a bottle of white. Another friend asked on the invitation for drinks preferences, so you could try to gauge a red/white preference that way.

One glass of Prosecco for each of the welcome drink and toast would be standard. For non-drinkers, I think my venue supplied an elderflower drink, but this wasn't for children. Children might prefer orange juice, if they will be the bulk of your non drinkers.

For 100 people we had 40 bottles of red, 40 white & 70 Prosecco. We also had a small selection of spirits, beer and cider.
This was for the whole day. We had quite a few bottles left over. We had a fair few children at the wedding too, so not all heavy drinkers.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions

Sorry I should've been more specific. There will be a bar for people to buy drinks. We ca t afford to pay for drinks all night ( our friends& family love a drink)

It's just welcome drinks/ drinks during the meal & toast drinks

We provided all of the drink for a dcs wedding last year at our home.
For about 80 people we bought 3 barrels of beer ( 2 different flavours, 2 of a more lager type, and more fuller flavoured beer) there was a bit of one barrel left at the end
We bought 32 bottles of prosecco, not enough, and 30 bottles each of red and white, all the white got drunk, quite a bit of red left over.
Bottles of water surprisingly popular, and the more upmarket fizzy type non alcoholic drinks eg bottle green went first.
Moral of the story, people drink a fuck load at weddings, especially when it is afternoon into all night and there is free booze on tap

cushioncovers · 14/04/2022 21:30

In my experience I'd say a bottle per person on the table for the meal.

SuzyQ12 · 14/04/2022 21:44

We had a welcome drink, two glasses of wine during the meal and a glass of bubbly for the toasts per person, then bar after that for people to.buy their own!

ExcuseeeeMe · 14/04/2022 21:46

Half a bottle at the meal is more than plenty

Sushi7 · 14/04/2022 22:04

Welcome drink, half a bottle during the meal and toast drink are more than enough! That’s at least 4 glasses of wine. If anyone feels the need for more then they can pay at the bar. Maybe supply non-alcoholic drinks throughout the night?

Kite22 · 14/04/2022 22:34

IME

One drink on arrival - used to be sherry, but in recent years more likely to be Pimms or wine

A bottle between 3 for the meal - remember there will be people who aren't drinking alcohol, so allowing 1/3 of a bottle means those who are drinking get more than that.

Something sparkly for the toast - though not many people actually like / want a fizz, and have a sip and leave it, it seems tradition over rules logic here

Those who have a need for more alcohol than that can go to the bar themselves to top up.

Figgyboa · 14/04/2022 23:44

We had 35 ppl, 30 bottles of procescco during reception plus pimms if anyone wanted. Every bottle gone. One bottle of wine per person for dinner, not sure how much was actually drunk. 300 behind the bar, that went fast, and guests bought there own after that. I guess we're big drinkers!
