Breastfeeding at my wedding

So, like many other couples, my DP and I had to postpone our wedding to this year because of Covid.. and cracked on and had a baby in the meantime! Our beautiful boy will be 5 months old at our wedding in August.

I'm exclusively breastfeeding, which is going well but obviously not ideal for my wedding dress! It was ordered back in 2020 and all paid for, so I need to make it work. It's high necked at the front with crossed thick
straps at the back. I'll need to pump or feed at some point during the day and will just have to go somewhere private and unhook the bodice part of the dress to do that. But I'm thinking I will probably also need a backless bra or one that crosses at the back so it can be hidden under the crossed straps.

Any tips on where to find a great bra? Has anyone been in the same predicament before and has any tips? This is my first child so first experience with BF too - should I expect to still be leaky by 5 months and needing breast pads in the bra? Or could I get away without a bra? The dress shop has said they can add boning to the dress for a bit of support, but if I'm still leaking I assume I'll need a bra!

Thank you!

Wear it backwards??

I’d ask the dress makers to add pockets for the breast pads should be a simple job

Congratulations, both on your baby and your upcoming wedding!
I would say that you will still need breastpads when baby is 5m old - I was still feeding every 3 hours at that point and still using lots of them. I am not sure about the bra - would you feel comfortable tucking them in your bodice, if that is fitted / tight enough?

I've just had my wedding and was in a similar situation (DC was 3 months). Got the seamstress to sew in some bra cups (taken from a normal white bra) and used some pads for the day, worked well!

I still need breastpads at 6m and baby is still feeding every 2-3 hours. I would try and find a suitable dress tbh, or get married in your original dress, have the official photos taken and then find a breastfeeding friendly version for the rest of the day!

I had a 5 month old at my wedding, luckily i could choose a dress that was easy to feed in.
A friend of mine wore a high neck wedding dress (to her own wedding, not mine!) and had like a pocket put in so she could whip a boob out and feed.
We both had cups sewn into the dress so no need for a bra.
I also leaked everywhere at first, but found by then I didn't leak by then anymore.

I went bra less as my wedding dress had enough support. However that was when o was a 36C now I'm pregnant with 40DD I'm unsure how I'd feel without the seamstress putting in cups.

DD prom dress has cups sewn in total of £15

I stopped leaking at 4 months. There's a fab FB group called Can I Breastfeed In It which has some great workarounds and a very knowledgeable community. Be warned though - you'll be made aware of so many gorgeous feeding friendly clothes it can be v dangerous to your bank balance!

Thanks so much everybody! Sounds like getting cups sewn in might be the answer, if that's possible, then adding breast pads, and I'll live with having to remove the bodice to feed or pump. Sounds more doable than getting the perfect bra. It's only 8-9 hours so if I pump enough beforehand that we can bottle feed all day, I can maybe get away with just one pump or feed during the day itself.

Thanks @NeverSayNeverAgainMaybe for that website tip!
