Bodice too short on wedding dress, fixable?

@NoCapesDarling, especially, other advice welcome though

Didn't want to impose on wannabehousebunny's thread.

Could you please advise, my daughter-in-law has a problem with her wedding dress.

She feels that the bodice is too short!! Can it be lengthened? Or would that be too complicated?

Many thanks for any advice.

(you're not in Oxfordshire by any chance?)

You could get a waistband added in to lengthen it. I'm a former seamstress but not bridal particularly.

Hi, over 25 years Bridal experience here, both retail, seamstress and manufacturing/pattern cutting/design.
Q's
Is her dress the same as sample that she saw/tried on?
Is it bespoke? If it was, did they make a toile ?
Is it on her natural waist now? (assuming its the correct length over bust points)
Why does she want it lengthened?
I will try to help if I can

@colderandeatsmincepiesalot

It is bespoke and apparently they've been able to resolve her concerns.

Thank you so much for your input and very kind offer.

It depends what the bodice is like and what kind of material it is.

Mine was lace with a tulle skirt and the bodice was too short. I contacted the dressmaker who sent me some additional lace appliques (same design as were already in the bodice). The seamstress then sewed them on to run down from the bodice into the tulle, effectively lengthening it - it worked very well and is beautiful - the design now is even nicer than the original!

Another option is possibly a sash/ ribbon which could be just below where the current bodice is.

It's probably not going to be an option to cut the bodice and add in additional material, unless it's already there folded under - sometimes dresses are designed with alterations in mind.

I think you need to take it to a wedding seamstress and get their opinion.
