We want to make the evening buffet special 1/ we love food 2/ everyone will have just eaten a set menu 3/ those joining just for the evening deserve something special 4/ we want to offer variety for all of the above

So if you could choose anything what would you go for

Best evening food I had was fish and chips in cone

Sugarcube84 · 10/02/2022 21:16

See that wouldn’t work for me as I don’t do fish and I want more choice.

Might be one of the options though

Depends on how many evening guests. If quite a few a bbq or hot buffet or even food trucks work well

Pizzas

It’s been done to death but loads of couples put on a hog roast in the evening, with baps/salads etc. Although, I’ve never overly enjoyed them.

NeesAndToes · 10/02/2022 21:19

I don't like the hog roasts either.

20viona · 10/02/2022 21:20

We had fish and chips, mini toad in the holes, mini pies, and staffordshire oatcakes served round the room by the catering staff rather than a buffet. Went down a treat.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/02/2022 21:20

Personally, I'd love an old school buffet. Sometimes you just need cheese and pineapple hedgehogs.

This sounds delicious. I think not having it all laid out is fun too.

I don’t like hog roast either. If you can do hot bowl food that would be great. Or a BBQ with choices.
If it’s a cold buffet a good one would have salmon, a massive ham, loads of salads and veggie options, different breads and cheeses, mini desserts etc

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/02/2022 21:38

I’d have a pizza oven ideally. Or a Taco food truck

itwasntaparty · 10/02/2022 21:39

Jesse cheese cheese and bacon sandwiches served hot at midnight

bjonesreborn · 10/02/2022 21:44

We had sausage baps and chips in a cone. They were demolished !

Notthisnotthat · 10/02/2022 21:44

A proper buffet done well. A friend had a selection of hot dishes, curry, chilli etc stovies, and hot dogs. Then had cheese, cold meats, bread and salads? Soaked up the booze.

ANameChangeAgain · 10/02/2022 21:50

The best one I went to, they hired their favourite Indian restaurant to serve up a couple of different currys, canteen style. 😋

caranations · 10/02/2022 21:52

No to a hog roast. Horrid.

mnahmnah · 10/02/2022 21:52

We had a barbecue and it went down very well. The venue organised it all, a range of fresh local meat in amazing marinades and a huge side buffet of fresh bread and salads etc. Everyone loved it

mnahmnah · 10/02/2022 21:52

And yes, as a vegetarian, when I see a hog roast I feel ill. I would avoid that!

DebiNewberry1997 · 10/02/2022 21:54

We did cheese and biscuits, wedding cake, crisps. My sister did bacon rolls.

I'm not a vegetarian and it puts me right off.

I went to a party recently where they gave us a really high quality and wide selection of cheeses, breads and salads, beautifully presented on posh-restaurant-style-china with proper cloth napkins. Maybe add some cold meats or something for any weirdos who don’t like cheese.

jelly79 · 10/02/2022 21:58

My sister done bacon sandwiches and the best cheese board - huge cheese wheels / cracker and chutney selections

mrsoverall2 · 10/02/2022 22:00

Cheese and amazing crackers and chutneys sounds great. I hate hog roast and also hate bacon butties suppers where I had to have a plan bread roll without even any butter. Even jacket spuds with a variety of fillings would be nicer than a beige buffet

inappropriateraspberry · 10/02/2022 22:03

We had a traditional buffet - sandwiches, mini pasties, brownies, flapjacks etc. lots of finger food, but really nice finger food! The caterers did it and it went down really well.
