Make-up decision

I'm getting married in less than 2 weeks and am having a last minute wobble on how to have my make-up (I'm doing my own but having my hair done).

I'm keeping it very natural:
-My usual sun cream with a tiny bit of foundation and highlighter mixed in
concealer
-more highlighter
-Blusher
-mascara
-Carmex on lips
And that's it!

Have been experimenting with a nice gold / bronze eye shadow but am a bit crap at applying it and found that it doesn't last well. I've asked my hair stylist if she could quickly apply it on the day (I'd obviously pay her extra) but she hasn't got back to me yet.

I'm thinking of just having no eye-shadow at all now just to keep things simple. I'm very emotional and likely to cry on the day so part of me thinks the less make-up there is, the less that can go wrong?!

Any bridal make-up advice welcome please! Did you go for the natural look on your wedding day? I'm 31.

Have you tried a primer with your eyeshadow? It shouldn't come off if you do.

You could watch some YouTube videos and practice applying before the wedding.

I assume you've done a practice run. Are you happy with how it looks? Maybe you could take a photo and ask a good friend (assuming you don't want to show us a pic of yourself).

It would give you an idea of how it photographs as well.

SPF can show up white in photos.

You might need some powder to matify.

Would you consider a lipstick instead of just a lip balm? It'll show better in photos and balance out the other make up

firstimemamma · 19/05/2021 20:06

@ElderMillennial thanks for the reply. I'm planning to buy a primer on Monday! Still yet to do a trial run but will do one soon as the day is getting nearer now! Thanks for the words of wisdom.

@PieElla my fiancé hates lipstick but I like it so I decided on none so that he doesn't kiss me awkwardly as he tends to do when I have it on. I know what you mean though!

A little make-up will look good in photos as the tend to bleach you out, but it should be what you are confortable with so that you still look like you.

It could be the suc cream that’s making your makeup slide off so if it’s not maybe try a facial one designed for under make-up.

Primer will help too.

No problem OP

If you do want some colour on your lips then how about a stain or a tinted lip balm.

I don't like lip stick either really but it can look nice for your lips to be a uniform colour and have some definition but you may not need it.

eurochick · 19/05/2021 20:31

You might want to reconsider the sun cream. Some can make you look like a ghost in pictures if cameras use flash. My usual moisturiser has spf in and I found out this effect at my wedding.

You could put lipcote on over your lipstick. It's like a varnish, stings a little bit but stops lipstick coming off.

Livpool · 19/05/2021 20:51

Tinted lip balm?

I did my own make up and had a makeover in Mac a few months before. Gave me some ideas plus the money it cost I could use against a purchase

Thanks all for the responses Smile

I've added a non-SPF moisturiser to my boots list and will deffo think about everything else mentioned.

Definitely get a primer. Check your foundation doesnt give you flash back on your photos or you'll look so white. Urban decay setting spray is amazing for setting your make up.

firstimemamma · 19/05/2021 21:28

@katieg03 how could I test though? Not trying to be rude, just genuinely wondering. Surely an iPhone is very different to the camera my photographer will be using on the day. I use the tiniest bit of foundation anyway and have never had any issues with looking pale in pics so hoping all will be ok.

I think the foundation will be fine but I would use as little highlighter as possible - that really can react with a photographers camera!

katieg03 · 20/05/2021 17:33

You need a foundation with no SPF... Just for your wedding day I'd honestly leave the SPF off your skin care. X

EvelynSalt · 21/05/2021 09:37

A tint like Benefit Benetint would be good for lip colour with absolutely no feeling of wearing anything. Looks very natural. Also Glossier do a lipstick which is much more of a subtle tint, again you can't feel it on the lips and it's long wearing.

firstimemamma · 21/05/2021 16:35

Thanks for all the responses I've had. Everything is sorted now - I'm going to buy an SPF free moisturiser and my current foundation is already SPF free, I'm having my eyeshadow put on by my hair stylist (who is also a make-up artist) and I'm going to buy eye shadow primer. All sorted! Thanks again for all the comments Smile

The Urban Decay eye primer is brilliant.
