What did you do after the registry office?

We want a registry office wedding, ideally just us but we think we can keep it to around 15 people including us. However what do we do then? We can’t really afford a wedding breakfast (or rather if we do spend that money we’d have to go into debt to have a honeymoon) but we’re conscious that people will expect something else after the ceremony.
We are also a bit unsure about heading home in our nice outfits just to sit on the sofa and watch tv.

What did you do after the registry office or have you got any super cheap ideas??

I got my dress from Roman Originals....not because of the budget but because I liked it- but was £40!! I did get a more expensive jacket and a fascinator. I probably came in around £200....maybe shoes were.more....they were reduced in Accessorise. I sound like a cheap skate....i'm not ... just for me spending loads on the outfit for one day seemed a bit silly. I swore I'd wear the dress again but haven't yet 2 years later.....

No I agree with you! If I spent £100-200 on a dress for any other occasion is think I looked great! I don’t know why for a wedding it needs to be hundreds/thousands

Obviously if you have the money/that’s what you want that’s fine
But I’m definitely more cheap than that!

asos have some lovely bridal dresses - there's a whole section for them.

Oxfam bridal might be worth a look, too.

@Namechange1067949 I also did my own bouquet. (My mum was horrified and kept asking if she could buy me one...didn't really understand we could afford it but didn't want to spend the money......after the event she admitted I was right. I got some floristry pins and ribbon. I also did the buttonholes...they were quite easy.) Whatever you do....enjoy it. And remember it is only one day, so don't sweat the small stuff.

Thank you
I think ASOS is the best I’ve seen but I was worried the quality would be awful!

Well you won't know until you order it and take a look. :) If it's awful you can return it. If it's lovely you will have something to wear.

I think Zara ,Monsoon and Whistles all do wedding dresses ? You may get a bargain in the sale
Depends whether you are going g traditional or not ?
Lots of choice - in some ways that makes it harder

We did something lovely for cheap - had a “posh picnic”.
We made up baskets for each group of guests with treats inside, including strawberries and mini bottles of fizz. We had inside and outside options for locations where we could eat and the baskets were ready to pick up at the exit of the ceremony :) It was so much fun to put together and people loved it.

I wore a home made , pretty cotton frock. We had 8 people there (no parents) and they came back to us for champagne and wedding cake. It’s not about the wedding - it’s about the marriage.

Why not all go home for a lovely M&S cake and some fizzy wine.
I agree with this. Just order some food from M&S and then you know exactly how much you’re spending. £200 would provide a huge buffet for 15 people.

I ordered from lalamira, you can put custom sizes in so its not generic. Was sceptical but for £130 can't go wrong.

I'm hoping after the ceremony we can go to the local pub/restaurant. Going to sort it on Monday once I know all the restrictions are definitely lifted.
