When is your wedding? What sort of things do you need help with - e.g your dress? More info needed Smile

DaisyandIvy · 11/03/2021 14:00

Small weddings are much more romantic so emphasise romance. Flickering candles, flowers, a harpist. Beautiful.

Wedding is in 16 days very low key, 4 of us at registry office at 10.30, then rule of 6 in the garden during the day.
The nearer it comes I feel I should be arranging things etc but just don't know where to start.
I hate wasting money, if something can't be eaten or drank I'm just not that interested in it

we did similar .A gazebo in garden is a must .. and camping chairs and table (borrowed some chairs)
You'll also need a patio heater probably .

We raided Oddbins at the time they're gone now , but Majestic do good deals and glass hire .. or any supermarket for wine and fizz
bought a garden trug/bucket and filled with ice ( from supermarket) to chill wine (still using it!)

We had a few plates a plate of beautiful small French patisserie cakes rather than a wedding cake and big bowls of strawberries and cherries.

DH and I went to Waitrose the day before for a side of salmon , salad breads and all the lovely deli goodies/ cheese

Kids (who were teens ) decorated the gazebo..

It was July , given and a hot day so we were lucky , but our guests (about 15) said it was a fab wedding .. That was 16 years ago.. Just the simple laid back wedding we wanted ,..

Enjoy your day !

Laska2Meryls · 12/03/2021 17:52

DH went for the ice and sorted the outside with the kids and future MIL and I put the food out in kitchen before we went to the registry office !

DH (and eldest teen) was Barman when we g0t back.. then everyone just dived in and did their own thing..

Definitely get some lovely flowers...I know they are expensive and seem like a huge waste of money (and they probably are) but they will make a massive difference to the photos when you look back.

Laska2Meryls · 12/03/2021 17:55

married at 11pm. Last guests left at midnight! , we had friends and neighbours popping in also during the day.

OverTheRainbow88 · 12/03/2021 17:58

Waitrose catering is fab!

Laska2Meryls · 12/03/2021 18:07

11Am. (duh!)

lcoxhey · 12/03/2021 18:07

Laska sounds absolutely wonderful. I love the sound of your wedding day. We haven't told anyone yet that includes our teenage boys who are the witnesses & we're not even sure when to tell!
Unfortunately flowers are a big No.. I don't enjoy them, they remind me of my parents funerals.

The Waitrose is under Waitrose entertaining

I guess you want ideas that would make it 'different' from a usual garden party? Gorgeous canapes as well as more substantial food, expensive fizz and a cocktail station/pimp your prosecco, fairy lights, scattered petals if you can stand the mess, a great playlist of your favourite music, and set some time aside to do some toasts or an activity for you and future dh. I love the patisserie cakes idea. Ice buckets a must, as well as the already mentioned gazebo and either a patio heater or good blankets.

Pukkatea · 12/03/2021 20:37

Oh and assuming a large percentage of the guests are teenagers, maybe some lawn games?

MissMogwai · 13/03/2021 22:01

How is the planning going OP? We're doing the same at the end of April, we're having 12 guests at the ceremony and a very small reception in the garden.

We've got a gazebo sorted, doing the garden up a bit and I've bought loads of naice fairy lights and candles. It will be small and intimate but relaxed and we're really looking forward to it.

Blankets sound a good idea as it will be chilly later on!

Cheesypea · 14/03/2021 07:28

Bottle of fizz? Lidl has 6 bottles of sav Blanc for 18 quid at the moment. Virgin cocktail? Or everyone's favourite drink. Have a fire in the evening with hot chocolate and marsh mellows. Is anyone any good at making cakes?
Order lunch from your favourite local restaurant the day before. Or put a roast on slow in the oven. Or make a one pot curry or chilli and put in the slow cooker.
I think today is a good time to tell your sons so they can be involved.
Also get the photos out?
Congratulations x

lcoxhey · 17/03/2021 20:56

So far: food from Costco, gazebo, will set up the hot tub, ordered new garden table & chairs set Grin,!a wigwam made with old branches & ivy, photos of absent adult children & their families framed, inherited antique China & glassware..
that's it for now

Get a proper photographer.
They're short of work so you'll get a good deal if you shop around.
My dd paid £300 for 5 hours and they're beautiful pictures.

lcoxhey · 17/03/2021 21:41

We've decided to save the photographer for when we can celebrate with friends & family. Pics on our mobiles will do hopefully
