Would you class black roses as suitable flowers for weddings?

Hi all. I have set a date for my wedding (25-09-21) and am starting to piece it together. I have a colour scheme and flowers in mind (white, purple and lilac roses).
Am debating whether to include black roses or not. My hairdo is gonna be styled with lilac rose hair slides and small purple and white rose claw clips; I also have black rose hair slides and was debating adding these to not just my wedding hairdo but also the colour scheme and flowers for the day. I know roses are often associated with weddings but would you consider black a wedding-y rose?

Noooooo

Thisismytimetoshine · 26/08/2020 21:50

How many have you seen at weddings? You must know they're not wedding flowers? Confused

SavoyCabbage · 26/08/2020 21:51

I think you should have whatever flowers you want at your own wedding. I wouldn't want them because they look artificial but I wouldn't think it was weird f someone had them at their wedding. We all like different things.

Onekidnoclue · 26/08/2020 21:52

I don’t think they’re weddingy but not everything has to be! If they’re ‘you’ then have them! Have a fab day.

Thisismytimetoshine · 26/08/2020 21:54

You'll look like Morticia.

JoJoSM2 · 26/08/2020 21:54

I wouldn’t choose them. Not just because they’re black but also they might look a bit in-your-face alongside white and lilac. Have you considered getting a bouquet made up to see what that would look like?

Littlegoth · 26/08/2020 21:55

Yes I can see this working - if you google black white purple roses some nice examples of goth style bouquets. I’d be tempted to add some AB crystals to make them pop.

LouiseNW · 26/08/2020 21:57

I’ve been gardening for a good few years now but never come across black roses?
(Furiously Googles)

KingOfDogShite · 26/08/2020 22:00

Roses don’t come in black.

Thisismytimetoshine · 26/08/2020 22:02

I imagine they're dyed. Dyed black flowers, especially sprinkled with crystals as suggested above sounds the ultimate in tack.

Akindelle · 26/08/2020 22:04

Roses don’t come in black. You can get roses that have been dyed black - they can be very variable in colour and can leak dye from the stem.

Mum2jenny · 26/08/2020 22:08

Up to you 100% but I’d love black roses. However it may not be too weddingingly (is that a real word??)

ShellsAndSunrises · 26/08/2020 22:08

It’s up to you. My florist had some when she dropped my flowers off last week and they looked gorgeous - they were dyed light black, no crystals and mixed with natural roses and they were pretty gorgeous.

LouisBalfour · 26/08/2020 22:12

White, purple, lilac and black? It sounds garish.

OhTheRoses · 26/08/2020 22:13

Roses are not natural September flowers
Roses are not naturally black

September flowers are michaelmas daisies, other asters, hebe, Daphne, Dalias, chrysanthemums, rosehips, berries, russet, holds and early autumn things.

EugenesAxe · 26/08/2020 22:14

I don’t think they belong anywhere to be honest.

You could pop in some queen of the night tulips (if a Spring wedding), or some black hollyhocks, or some black hellebores, which are a type of winter rose?

hauntedvagina · 26/08/2020 22:15

Your wedding, your flowers OP. I had black wedding stationery and it looked fab.

hauntedvagina · 26/08/2020 22:17

Although if you didn't want to commit to black roses, perhaps dark, dark purple Cala lilies?

stepmumSW5 · 26/08/2020 22:21

You can def use a touch of black but def not roses. Try to keep the color scheme to three colors. Your decorators and florists will be able to work with shades that go well together.

RightOnTheEdge · 26/08/2020 22:21

It doesn't matter if they are or not OP. It's your wedding so have whatever flowers you want!

Justgivemesomepeace · 26/08/2020 22:21

I've just googled black white and purple bouquet and they can look surprisingly lovely and not at all 'morticia' like.
Go for it.

titchy · 26/08/2020 22:34

Great for a steampunk style wedding!

BackforGood · 26/08/2020 22:37

I wouldn't say they are wedding flowers.
In truth, I wouldn't say they are flowers - roses don't grow black.

Ultimately, you can do what you want - I love the fact that nowadays people can have their own 'style' of wedding, and aren't constrained by 'tradition'.
However I guess that if you didn't care what other people think you wouldn't be asking the internet what they thought ?

LizB62A · 26/08/2020 22:37

It's your wedding, so you should have the flowers you want to have.
Who cares what other people think ?

Enjoy !!

KetoPenguin · 26/08/2020 22:38

I'd only do it if you want a bit of an alternative feel, if everything else is very traditional then I wouldn't do it.
