Village hall wedding ideas and details

Planning my wedding in a local village hall and I am an over-planner, so need to ensure I am on top of all of the details. Not having a venue wedding, there are so many bits&pieces that I will need to sort myself. Anyone who has done this, please tell me all of the things I'm likely to forget!

For a bit more background, the wedding is for 60 people in June. Ceremony at a registry office 20mins away. Hall has a good sized kitchen and outside area that could have a small marquee put up

TIA

Put baskets in the toilets with useful stuff like hand wash, body spray, hand cream, hairspray, tissues, hair grips.
Chairs make sure there are enough and that they are comfortable.
Cake knife.
Will you be providing a bar or arranging a pay bar?

We did this and it was brilliant. So much fun and doing the bulk of it ourselves made it even more lovely.

Things to think about:
-Food plus evening food if you're having it. We had a hog roast for the main meal (and I made a vegetarian option) plus salads/potatoes etc. Me & friends made a few different cakes for desserts. Evening food was mainly sainsbury sandwich platters plus bits we did ourselves (nice sausage rolls / pasta / salads etc were things we made).

  • seating. We had a seating plan as thought it could be awkward if people couldn't sit with partners etc, but the food was help yourself, table at a time.
  • how to keep all the drinks cold. We used fridge & freezer plus loads of bins of ice, and little ice buckets on each table to keep table drinks cold.
  • people helped themselves to drinks, we had beer, wine, vodka & soft drinks in bins & buckets with ice & people brought anything else if they wanted it (all outlined on invites).
  • where you will get glasses / cutlery / plates etc. We hired glasses from sainsbury for free, local event place for cutlery hire and spent ages getting cool vintage plates in charity shops for the food.
  • music / entertainment. We hired a sound system and lights, and did a playlist on iTunes for the music. Got people to request a song on their rsvp.
  • setting and clearing up. We hired the hall for 3 days - Friday to setup, Saturday wedding, Sunday to clean. Even the cleaning was fun with our friends and family.

The biggest thing was getting people to.help out on the day - really you will need someone to clear plates / glasses / get the drinks on ice on tables etc on day of wedding. We used a family friends catering business. They didn't do any catering, we just paid them to do those bits (with clear instructions). Made it far less stressful!

I run events for a living and I recommend walking through the day in minute detail so you can see where there may be things you’ve missed. Can be small things like ensuring there are bin bags!

Is there a friend or someone else you trust to be ‘in charge’ on the day? I would feel honoured if someone asked me to do that!

Thanks for all of the tips so far, lots I hadn’t thought about.

We are planning:
Hot buffet dinner (Provides by a catering company)
We will make/provide cold buffet items for later on in the evening
We will provide drinks or ask guests to bring spirits that they like
Not decided on evening entertainment yet
