Online wedding dresses

It's a bit of a risk but I was thinking of buying an online wedding dress. We would like to get married as soon as covid is all over, and as this is my second wedding I just want t keep it simple and low budget. Has anyone been happy with an online purchase? Vedress.co.uk seem to have lovely dresses but obviously you don't know what you are getting. I was thinking of ordering a few to try on.

I think if you can return them it might be the way forward - can you check reviews to see if particular designers come up small/large? Also depends if you would need to get a seamstress to make it fit perfectly, could be an issue.
I too am looking at dresses for a second marriage and don't expect to have anything quite so fitted/full on as the first time so hoping to be able to get something a bit more 'off the peg' :)

I bought a few amazing dresses from Net a Porter (not technically wedding dresses, but they looked the part) and just returned the ones I didn't like.

Dead easy and I had a loooooovely dress for a lot less than had it been in a wedding boutique.

thanks for your replies, I am also going for something thats just more my style instead of a traditional wedding dress Bruno, and there seems to be so much more choice online with that kind of thing. The reviews are all good but I have noticed that they have mixed up reviews (some reviews are clearly not for the dress being advertised) so I am a bit uneasy, but I guess if I can easily return them then it won't matter, and I'm sure I'll be able to find a seamstress. I will check net a porter out, thanks Pauline, so glad you got what you wanted!

I got my wedding dress from JJ's House after I spent £800 on a dress I thought I loved and then ended up hating weeks before my wedding. The one from JJ's House was perfect. Ordered it really close to my wedding and asked them to push the delivery which they did.

Anon, what is the quality like of the JJ dresses as the prices are amazing and some look ideal for a 2nd wedding (sorry to gatecrash the thread)!

I would go to a reputable retailer for this, tbh. It’s never worth it to take a risk on it. Pay a bit more but you know what you’re going to get. Get whatever dress most appeals to you, doesn’t need to be a ‘wedding’ dress. And that way you can rewear it as many times as you like, so it makes the higher price good value.

I realised less than 2 weeks before my wedding that my dress was so huge I couldn't dance in it for the celidh we were having. I have absolutely no explanation for why I didn't realise this sooner, it was very obvious...(!!!) Anyway, I bought a bridesmaid style dress in ivory (approx £45) from JJs house for the night and the quality is outstanding. So much so that when the dress arrived 2 days before and I'd ordered too big, we had to get a professional seamstress to resize it because the bodice and finish was too good for us to figure out how to do it, and I'm fairly handy with a sewing machine. Have you looked at Monsoon, Reiss etc for high street? Some beautiful dresses on there which are lovely quality.

Saladd0dger · 09/06/2020 11:35

Chi chi London have some lovely dresses

homebird29 · 09/06/2020 20:54

I’m in the same boat OP. So far I’ve seen nice dresses on:
Whistles
Yoox
MaxMara
The Outnet
Monsoon
Net A Porter
French Connection
Reformation

Some great ideas here thank you!! I am going through them, and also looking at separates. I saw a gorgeous satin corset top in top shop for only £25 and it would be easy to add details on! I checked vedress.co.uk, and you can't bring dresses back even if they are standard size, very disappointing. I don't want to take the risk as I am very fussy! Took me tons of shops to find my dress the last time. So I'm going through all the high street shops. Some wedding boutiques also do sample sales, so when they open up again I will have a look.

I got married in a lovely monsoon dress. Wouldn't recommend french connection - all the ones I tried were completely see through!

I've got mine from jjs house. I think with the shipping it was just under £300. I've yet to wear it as my wedding has been postponed til next year but I've tried it on and actually fits like a glove anyway so hopefully not too many alterations needed and the quality is amazing. Definatly looks alot more expensive than it was
