Seamstress prices

This might be a long shot but I am hoping there could be some seamstresses out there or fellow brides who have recently had to hire a seamstress who areable to tell me roughly how much it would cost to have a wedding dress pulled in and shortened? I know this is very vague so I will attach a picture of my dress in the hope it will help...
My dress is a size 12 but I would say I'm more of a size 10 (on the bigger side of 10). I am totally clueless when it comes to seamstress costs so would be very easily ripped off so any ideas would be much appreciated Smile

The dress I am wearing in this picture is a size 12 (the same size I have ordered)

I imagine this would be in the hundreds as it would take a while to do. The shortening would take a while and a fitting or two.

I paid £250 to have my dress made start to finish so I'd imagine it'd be something slightly less.

The shop where I bought the dress from have a seamstress who comes in to alter the dresses for the brides and have so far given me a rough price of £200 but this quote wasn't given from the actual seamstress this is from the lady who owns the shop.
I am wondering whether I should shop around a bit before agreeing or just go for the easier option and staying in house.

I need my dress shortening and taking in, the seamstress who works for the shop where I bought my dress from charges £195 for any alterations. However, when I bought my dress she sid say I was free to take it and shop around, but to be honest i couldn't be bothered with the hassle. Plus I've paid for both and she is happy for me to go for the final measuring no later than next April / May ( I get married in September) gives me chance to lose a bit of weight first too !! Smile

I got quoted £200 but then I haggled with the shop over the dress price and accessories and she threw the alterations in for free and halved the accessory price (always worth trying to barter).

Mine was £150 to take from a size 14 to a 10/12, have it taken up too. There was a lot of beadwork included. In in the North East if you need a recommendation - she was amazing

Hellbentwellwent · 13/12/2019 14:35

200 sounds about right, there’s hours of work in that alteration. If you do shop around beware that going with the cheapest option could be an expensive mistake if the dress is ruined by an unskilled hand working cheap and quick

RhymingRabbit3 · 13/12/2019 15:23

I would be inclined to go with the one suggested by the shop, unless prices were wildly different. You're also more likely to be covered if she makes a mistake and runs the dress, if they recommended her.

GlamGiraffe · 13/12/2019 15:26

I would get it done at the original shop if they seem reasonably with the plot, if they do something wrong, they can sort it out

The dress is lovely by the way.
