WEDDING BOOZE BUYING

Angbunnyboo · 22/10/2019 15:51

We're getting married next summer and supplying all the booze.

There are only 23 of us but its for an entire weekend and I'm just wondering
1: How much booze we will need?
2: Whats the cheapest way to buy it?

I'm planning on buying 2 cases of champagne, 4 of Prosecco and two cases each of red, white and rose wine - do you think this will be enough for a formal sit down meal, canapes & toasts and the rest of the weekend?

Not sure about beer, lager, Guiness, cider etc - how much should I get and what's the cheapest way to get it?

I was going to wait til Xmas when all the supermarkets have sales on, but am I better with an online retailer or somewhere like Majestic?

Thanks in advance

That sounds like loads! Especially if you are getting beer and spirits too. Online probably your best bet. I've recently changed from Sunday Times Wine Club to Majestic and really impressed with the latter's prices. They offer generous discounts.

A case us 12 bottles not the box it comes in , so yes you have enough. Personally I’d do it on one of the 25% of 6 bottle deals they all do at Christmas.
You should get some lagers for the weekend a few beers.
Get soft drinks too, fizzy water and irange juice went well, we found. A bottle of gin with tonics and lemmonade to mix which doubles as soft drinks for people too

I think the wine will be more than enough.... Possibly too much if people drink beer or spirits instead!

You've got more than a bottle of champagne per person, more than two bottles of prosecco per person, and more than one bottle of wine for each person in red, white, and rose.

So (assuming they will all drink anything, which they won't) that's one bottle of champagne, one bottle of red, white and rose, and two bottles of prosecco per person. Thats six bottles over the weekend. Which is quite a lot if they actually prefer to drink beer/spirits instead.

With twenty three guests, may I suggest a casual conversation about what they would like to drink?

I know at my wedding we really overcatered on wine, and undercatered on other drinks, in hindsight.

For wine, sign up for email updates from laithwaites, virgin, naked wines.... We've got cases of decent wine for £40 or so before on their introductory offers (just remember some are subscription so need to cancel)

I also wouldn't be adverse to saying 'we will provide wine, if you want anything further, byob' if your venue arrives.

Provide plenty of mixers and soft drinks.

Tesco so sale or return! You get 28 days, so it has to fit in with your honeymoon plans. They often have good offers too.
We got married in July, and I did this mad complex equation whereby big drinkers would drink a drink an hour, moderate drinkers etc etc. We ended up with crates and crates of it left.

We decided to keep the bubbly and returned the rest to Tesco.

Also Waitrose do free glass hire, no purchase needed.

Ps, but we got through all the bottled water( 1L pp), it was a hot day

Going against the grain here but I don't think that's enough for a celebration where people drink much more than they usually would. It's amazing how much people knock back and lose track of their glass when they're not paying...

I would add at least another case of each and two beers per person per day.
