I'm hopeless when it comes to diamonds and obviously online the photo they show is of the best quality. Can anyone show me their rings and the different between an I1 inclusion and a SI2? I dont think I care too much about inclusions but it's hard to tell when I havent seen a real ring. Thanks!!

Go see it in person. Anything photographed isn't going to show you how it presents in real life.
You'll get ripped off

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 14:07

I cant see it in person but I can send it back within 30 days if it's not right for me but of course I'd like to get it right the first time haha!

You want to see our engagement rings or weddings rings? Both?

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 14:12

It's an engagement ring I'm going for, princess cut but I'd appreciate any anyone has 😊

Other people's rings aren't indicative of yours though. Surely you could just look up princess cut diamond on google?

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 14:16

I know that, I'm just looking to see the difference from real people and not photos jewers put up. I'm just wondering how much difference the clarity makes between the 2 I've mentioned.

It's not as simple as here's my ring with an inclusion your's would be the same. I chose my diamond from a a selection picking one of the slightly smaller, better quality stone in our price bracket and had a ring I designed made for it. It had one inclusion that you could just about see if you looked for it/knew it was there. A few years ago I lost the original stone and had to have it replaced. The replacement is certified as having an inclusion of the same type. After searching with a loop I found it before the stone was set - in the the ring you cannot see it even though I know there is an inclusion.

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 14:19

I'm aware that my ring wouldn't be exactly the same as another ring with inclusions. I was just hoping to get an idea of the difference from real rings.

if you can afford it go for a VS1 or a VVS1 colour E/F or G.
You can't see the inclusions with the naked eye.
Get the colour right as that determines how "white" the diamond is.

HeyMicky · 17/10/2019 14:29

An I1 will have an inclusion visible to the naked eye. With a princess cut you'll likely get away with an SI2.

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 14:30

Thank you. The place I have been looking at suggests getting a G as the band is white gold

If you can, get platinum not white gold. Pain in the arse as tarnishes and will need replaying. I'd never have anything other than platinum

Go to a shop and look at rings - even if you have no intention of buying a ring there it will give you an idea of the differences between different clarities, colours etc. The inclusions in my old or new stone wouldn't show in a photo (i doubt any inclusions would in a normal non magnified photo) but as I say one was (just about) visible to the naked eye and the other isn't - one was slightly magnified by the cut because of where it was the other is hidden by the setting.

Even looking at internet guides that explain the 4Cs that make up diamond quality will give you an idea of what to prioritise. There are loads of guides on the internet that show the different types of inclusion but nothing beats looking at actual stones. For some people its all about the biggest stone, for others colour is important (especially if you are looking at a white rather than yellowing setting). I fell in love with my diamond because it was perfect for the ring I had in mind. I was devastated when I lost it and because it was slightly unusual in its proportions I was really worried that the replacement just wouldn't be as nice but it is actually slightly better.

Ravenrob · 17/10/2019 15:47

Definitely go and try and some on! I picked mine last week and thought I knew what I liked but I went for something completely different after trying them on.

Whattheother2catsprefer · 17/10/2019 16:10

Ravenrob - it's the same with wedding dresses - you can think you know what you want but something completely different ends up being "the one".

Ozziewozzie · 17/10/2019 16:28

This seems a weird thread to me. Surely, you just go see tings in the flesh? It’s personal choice and budget. Plus if you love someone , it doesn’t matter if it’s z curtain ring. You’re putting too much into the wrong thing in my opinion.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/10/2019 16:32

www.gemporia.com will give you loads of information, pictures & prices. Congratulations!

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 17/10/2019 16:58

With a difference in clarity you might not notice (especially as some jewellers hide the location of inclusions with the setting). Colour on the whole is where you’re likely to notice a difference (compared to another ring). I looked at some rings where I could really notice a yellow tinge!

As a side note to colour - I’m presuming your potential diamonds are certified? Ask about the fluorescence - some diamonds with higher levels look whiter to the eye. So maybe you could compromise there.

I’d be tempted to avoid the included diamond if possible though.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 17/10/2019 17:02

Equally as another poster said, platinum requires no upkeep, whereas you would have to regularly have a white gold band re-plated. When you think about that cost over time, you’d wish you’d got platinum in the first place lol!

orchid1234 · 17/10/2019 21:28

Thankyou for everyones help and advice, I just honestly didnt know the difference, I've looked at rings in shops but never even knew about clarity being a thing but I found a ring from a online jewellers that I loved and have never seen anything like it in a jewelry shop and then I saw about clarity and just wondered how much it mattered. I dont care if my ring is £10 or £1000, I just wanted it to be my style. Again thank you to the people who gave advice I really appreciate it

Indeed, I would also be inclined to VS1 or VVS1 color E / F or G.
