Is 6.30pm too early to start evening reception?

Just that really.

Working out wedding timings and the best time to start the evening reception to avoid gaps is 6.30pm. This feels too early to me or is it a normal time?

Thanks

It kind of depends on what time the ceremony, meal etc is.

What time is the ceremony. We are starting evening at 7.30pm a 2pm ceremony.

The gaps are the worst bit for nearly everyone, so yeah, get the evening underway asap!

I went to a reception recently that started at 4pm. It was great with kids! Start it whenever you want to!

I think it's okay if you ensure there is enough food provided particularly for those only invited to the evening ceremony- it's not a very convenient time for them to be coming to, before normal dinner time.

I got married at 1.30pm, it was 3.15ish by the time we had taken photos at the church & reception venue, we sat down for the wedding breakfast at 4.00pm & the evening reception started at 7.00pm, the food was served around 8.00pm & kept on being served until 10.30pm, the venue refreshed bowls of chips, curry, rice & Jacket potatoes whenever they started to look empty. They were great & provided doggy boxes for everyone to take home, we were going on honeymoon the next day to our caravan & had a couple of boxes of curry & rice to warm up when we got sorted out for evening meal as well as a case of fizz that was left over.
