Wedding hair help

My hair’s not disastrous but it’s fine and I’ve always wished it was fuller. Everyone hairdresser I go to tries to ‘volumise’ it and it honestly just ends up looking fluffy and a bit of a mess.

So - what do I do for my wedding? I just want it down, perhaps with waves for a bit more volume. Still me, but slightly more styled than usual. I’m just worried about finding a hairdresser who can do this the way I’d like it. Does anyone have any tips for finding a hairdresser? Or do I just resign myself to paying for loads of trials until I find one I like?! Or perhaps someone has hair like mine and has recommendations? Any ideas/tips welcome!

I would try and look for reviews for potential hairdressers. Have a look at their Facebook/ Instagram pages for photos/ reviews. Narrow it down to 2 or 3. Then book a trial with your first choice. Can you find a picture of a style you like / want on the day and ask them to recreate it. If no luck you might have to try number 2. What about friends / relatives could they recommend one? How come you aren't considering your usual hairdresser?

Thank you @Brideof2020, that’s really helpful. I don’t have a usual hairdresser! Having never left a salon feeling pleased with a cut, I’ve never had a reason to go back. I do move around a bit too, so I usually just go to any one that has an offer on. Looking up their Facebook and Instagram is a good idea, I’ll try that to see what the options are.
When you book a trial do you just get one style done? Or can you ask them to do 2/3?

Ah ok that explains it then! To be honest I'm not sure how many styles you would be able to try at your trial. Say if you book in for an hour, I suppose you could do as many as you could within the hour. I'm not entirely sure how it works. If you have an idea of how you would like your hair then I would try and work towards creating that perfect look. However, if you wanted to try something to see if you like it / suits you then I don't see why that would be a problem. Give a couple of salons a ring and see what they do, even if your not thinking of using them. You may also want to enquire about the prices to.This probably isn't much help sorry!! I'm using my normal hairdresser, who is also mobile. I've got a pretty good idea of what I want, and even more so now I've chose my dress. She's coming next week to do my hair as normal and were having our first discussion about my wedding hair. Hope you get sorted.

Thanks @brideof2020 you’ve given me some ideas of where to start which is great. Congrats on choosing your dress and good luck with the rest of the planning!

I have quite fine hair which can look flat; my stylist suggested hair extensions which I’ve never worn before and was very unsure about, but actually it worked really well and my hair looked naturally thick. I wore it wavy, half up half down and this helped create an illusion of volume too.
Good luck!

Ah thank you @easterlemma, have a fab wedding Smile

I don't have a regular hair dresser but was recommended one for my wedding.

She suggested extensions from Sally's. I'd never worn them like a pp, but they were extremely comfortable, matched my hair colour and I completely forgot they were there. They offered the volume and length I wanted to feel good on the day!

easterlemma · 11/09/2019 22:31

Thank you @Ladypuggerz and @SRK16 - did you still feel like you when you wore extensions? I’d love to look back on the photos and recognise myself in them!!!

Also, did they feel stable? One of the reasons I don’t want a veil is because I don’t want to worry about it slipping/falling out etc

I was amazed, I couldn’t tell from photos/the mirror I had extensions in, just looked like I was having a really good hair day. They were very secure and stayed in well. They were clip in ones (they did feel a bit tight initially but got used to it) and she used clips to secure my hair as well. I would definitely look into it as an option.

Thanks @SRK16, lots to think about and look into now from this post! Thanks all!

I definitely still felt like myself! My hair is naturally curly and the hairdresser curled the extensions. She also used tons of the right product and hairspray and those curls were perfect all the way to 1am! That was with many hours of dancing!

I actually had quite a job getting the extensions out, they were that secure! (I was also absolutely exhausted too by that point, but so happy! :) )

easterlemma · 17/09/2019 18:26

Thanks @Ladypuggerz, great to know multiple people found them secure! Hmm I’ll have to get on to some research now for good hairdressers and extensions (never thought I’d say that, am not glam in the slightest!)

Yup - my hair really thin and fine too and I wanted half up half down but as soon as half went up there was not enough fullness in the half down bit.

I had extensions - clip in - which my hairdresser dyed to match my natural colour - she cut them to the same length as my own hair and they gave me the full head of hair I wanted - they stayed in all day without any issues at all and I brushed it loads in between photos.

I kept them and have worn them again for my own daughter's wedding and my grandson's christening!
