Appt is on Monday to do Notice Of Marriage. I can't find my it original short birth certificate. I do however have a certified copy of entry full certificate obtained through correct channels- GRO- last year.

I will ring and check tomorrow but does anyone know? Stressing!!

Here you don't need birth certificate if you gave passport or drivers licence. Then you need a utility bill for your address and then correct documents showing previous marriage ended correctly if appropriate.

All birth certificates are just copies of the entries in the register, there's not really such thing as an original copy is there? It's just the certified copy that your parents got at the time of registering you. The one you acquired more recently is just as valid.

No passport. We do have driving licence though but they'll only accept that as proof of address not the first category which is birth cert or passport.

I'm feeling more reassured now though so thank you and I'll give him a call later.

Just take the fully copy, that gives more detail than the short one anyway. Can't see why this would ever be a problem.

I took a full birth certificate (never owned a short version!), driving licence and decree absolute from my first marriage.

yermawyabas · 06/06/2019 17:21

I took full birth certificates, it wasn't a problem.

They said both were ok. We've found short ( original on Now too

You need the full birth cert with your parents details on as you will be using it to prove your nationality. If you were born after 1983, you'll also need your mother's full birth certificate.

Spam88 · 10/06/2019 16:00

Can't see either of those requirements stated on the government website @PerspicaciaTick - I don't have either and am successfully married...

PerspicaciaTick · 10/06/2019 16:06

Spam88, how did you prove your nationality then? Perhaps you used your passport, which the OP doesn't have?

Wellandtrulyoutnumbered · 10/06/2019 21:40

PerspicaciaTick you only need to do that if you are born after 1983.

I successfully applied for my marriage cert today with birth certs ( short) and driving licences.

Pretty sure I said about 1983.
