Cold or hot buffet

Our ceremony is at 4pm and we are looking to then eat (one meal, no wedding breakfast or sit down meal) at around 6:30pm.

Would you think a cold buffet would be acceptable or would you expect hot food?

Could be a mixture? You could have salads, bread, cheese and cold meats, served with some hot stuff like quiches, chicken, potato etc

Our is weddin at 5pm, reception about 6pm, so we expect nearly everyone to have already had their dinner that day as many are travelling a hundred miles and some much more.

Cold buffet contains some hot items anyway, and I’ve found the venue manager is more than happy to speak to the chef to include hot within the cold buffet.

If the cold buffet contained some nice cheese, breads and wine then I’d be happy Grin

I think it depends on the time of year. Summer wedding: cold buffet fine. January wedding: I'd want something hot.

I had a cold buffet at my wedding (May).

We did the similar to you...ceremony and then on to a lovely restaurant with terrace overlooking the sea.
Cold canapés and fizz at the restaurant while we did speeches.
Cold starter buffet with seafood, vegetable pasta and salads ( tbh most people including me thought that was the buffet)
Hot buffet with whole fish, lamb chops, jacket potatoes and more salads.
Our Croquembouche wedding cake with cream and fresh berries fruit with zabaglione. Cheese and biscuits.
We paid half a bottle person but they just came round and refilled glasses all night long.
Bloody love France.

Are you doing it yourselves or getting caterers or is it done by the venue?

I think you can get away with anything as long as there’s plenty of it and people don’t have to wait ages in queues stressing about it.

Just bear in mind it’s going to be the main meal of the day and I think it’s the bit guests judge your weddding on. Less so your dress or ceremony or flowers.

Catering company will be providing it along with proper plates and cutlery. I've also asked them for serving staff too.
