Yank here. I got my engagement ring made at Blue Nile about 15 years ago to replace the original ring that was stolen when our house was burgled.

The ring is gorgeous (pear shape stone with side sapphires in a platinum setting) and it was about 20% than I could have had it made for in the diamond district in NYC.

I can't help you with UK sites. Does Blue Nile not ship to the UK?

Try TJC online, you can get certified diamonds set it platinum or gold have it delivered get an independent valuation and if it doesn’t meet your expectations return it back to them for a full refund. They’re in the UK.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 10/02/2019 19:57

Thank you both. Have you used TJC? Its not one that's come up.

Blue Nile ship to the Uk so does James Allen but cant see anything i like on blue nile. I'd also have to pay customs (its still works out a better option) they rings are guaranteed but its trickier to rerurn things or get things checked as im overseas.

Thanks for replies

Yes I’ve used TJC many times, go online and look at their items. Lots of diamond designs. There are independent reviews on some items that may help you decide. Either way you can send it back if you’re not sure.

Tatty bear do you have the link? The page i went on was a bit of everything homewesr jewellery etc it didnt really seem the kind of thing i was after as even if shopping on the high street id go to a jewellers not a store selling all sorts which makes me think i was on the wrong page.

What have you purchased from there?

Nope you’re in the right place, go on the diamonds page. They sell no conflict diamonds IGi certified for VS grade and EF color Diamonds.

Example below. There are others on the website.

www.tjc.co.uk/rings/rhapsody-950-platinum-igi-certified-diamond-rnd-vs%2Fe-f-boat-cluster-ring-1.000-ct.-M3228513.html#q=Diamond%2Bin%2Bplatinum&cgid=shop-navigation&start=4

If you want a main jewellery dealer then go there instead and pay above market value. A diamond is a diamond is a diamond, they are easy to find, and easy to work out a market value on if they are certified and graded so you don’t get ripped off. You asked for recommendations I gave you one, if you’re not happy because they’ve diversified and sell other stuff as well look somewhere else.

OP, regarding not seeing anything you liked on Blue Nile, I didn't either, so I had it made for me. You can select your own stone(s) and setting and they'll put it together for you.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 11/02/2019 19:12

Thatnk you PP i contacted them but its more expensive so not the way to go for me.

My engagement ring and wedding band are both from The Natural Diamond Company (US based) but I had the wedding band shipped to the UK.

5 years later I still love both and get loads of compliments. Much more affordable than buying in store here.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 12/02/2019 20:11

Ive found A Uk company that do similar as james allen, blue nile etc seem v reputable.

Ive looked at tjc and dont understand how tgey certify such small diamonds. Certification is expensive and wouldnt necessarily be worth it in the style im looking at. Industry standards state its not usually done.

Pp what style did u have x

My engagement ring is from 77 Diamonds. You can choose your stone (narrowed by shape, size, clarity etc) and your setting. They often have photos of the actual stones if you use the proper website (not the mobile site). Mine is the Aphrodite in platinum with a flawless cushion cut diamond in the centre. We paid about half of its actual insurable valuation.

mrsk28 · 12/02/2019 20:30

My wedding ring is a pave style I think (diamond set into the band half way round) and my engagement ring is the same with a round diamond in the middle (1 carat).

The valuation was around 4 times the cost from what I remember so definitely worth a look.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 12/02/2019 23:47

I did take a peel at 77 diamonds
