Inviting idiots!

This May come across as a bit bitchy, thing is I’m annoyed that we are having to invite peoples other halves, one causes trouble and cannot seem to contain themselves. (Goes around family, stirring and causing arguments) and the other has “anxiety” so she always ends up centre of attention with her “needs” due to it (I would have thought someone with anxiety wouldn’t want to attract attention to be honest).
We have aimed for a smallish wedding to try and keep it simple, we just want to have a good time with friend s and family, but these two individuals seem to cause a scene everytime.
We discussed it and agreed that we will invite them but we will tell our friends to keep them tame and if they can’t then they will have to leave.
It’s really annoying me that I feel like we are having to invite people to avoid 1. Upsetting our friends, 2. Obliged due to etiquette.
AIBU?

If you’ve told their partners to keep them tame it’s unlikely they or the partners will come anyway Grin

Invite who you want not who you feel obliged to invite, just say it’s a small affair and you don’t want numbers/finances getting out of hand.

The friends are groomsmen so it’s unlikely that they wouldn’t come and also the reason why they are particularly invited. I don’t think it’s asking much just to not cause trouble for one day

I feel the same. Resent having to invite people we don’t know or don’t like at the expense of actual friends, to avoid causing offence. I was so tempted to have a blanket “no plus ones” policy but OH put his foot down. Guest list for a wedding is a minefield, especially if you are trying to keep it small.

I've invited my friend and not her arse of a husband. Although they are going to be away. I go out with her not him. The only time he's come he's been absolutely obnoxious so I felt no guillt. My cousins awful partner I have invited just to keep peace. Even though he was SO RUDE to me at my parents golden wedding last year that I organised and paid for. All he had to do was supervise his own 2 children on the crazy golf I arranged for all the kids for 30 minutes/an hour. But no....that was too much trouble. And fortunately they may be away too.....(although I am sad about my cousin).

YANBU. Some posters seem to live in a bubble world where everyone is a naice person, and it's always lovely to meet new people and they're now best friends with table 3 and meet up for coffees.

Bollocks to that. I was dreading the presence of a 'baby mama no 2' at my wedding, where all the other guests were very much on the side of the injured (cheated on) party. She was thick as mince and likely to cause a scene. Fortunately the relationship ended before the wedding - in fact, so did the relationship between us and her partner.

It was the loveliest gift they could have given us.
