Bags for guests staying overnight

If you were staying in the accommodation after a wedding, and a gift / goody bag was left for you, what would you like it to include?

Thinking more snacks / hamper type things rather than actual gifts

I guess it depends on whether breakfast was included where we were staying. I know the cliche is the making of a Bloody Mary / some headache pills, but maybe some nice tea / coffee / pastries for the morning?

Are you doing favours as well? Because I wouldn't do both. They're a lovely idea but most people will leave half of the stuff in their rooms. The cash would be better spent upgrading the breakfast options or putting another bottle of wine on each of the tables during the reception.

How far away is the wedding? After the first flush of booking stuff I had all these grand plans of DIY gift bags for the bridal party and other crafty shit I was going to do. Then as the wedding rocked round after that lull in the middle I became incredibly time and cash poor, so those things had to give. Don't be putting too much on your plate.

In the nicest possible way, I've never used anything from these sort of gifts and they just get left behind. I'd save your money for something else

I'm afraid that however nice the thing it is you include, people will leave them behind. Or they won't understand what they're for. Or someone will take offence that it isn't to taste/expensive enough/convenient to pack.

Even my mostly-lovely guests defaulted to human nature for our weekend.

I agree that upgrading something somewhere else or making the day easier in some way is the way forward.

I would love it!! But I'm the sort of girl that takes home the nice shower gel from a hotel room. I would like: Chocolate, individual wine, alka seltzer sachet, small shower gel, can of orange juice, camomile tea bag (obviously it depends on the type of hotel you are in - we regularly stay at Premier Inns - great value hotels - but you wouldn't want to take the toiletries home. Lol. Equally I am planning a wedding and can fully understand the points made about you having enough on your plate. So maybe only do it if you have enough time/budget. It's definitely not expected.

We got married in a very snowy March. We booked out the venue and treated it like a giant house party for the weekend 😳.

In my 'everything must be perfect' mindset I kept thinking about guest goody bags but felt it was too expensive. However the boots 70% off sale kicked in and I got each adult a pair of totes travel slippers, a face mask and a bath bomb... including the men! For the children I got slipper socks, a bath bomb and sweets. I used brown paper bags and ribbon.

Madness clearly runs in the family as my father arrived with a dozen sledges and the kitchen kindly donated snowman essentials such as a carrot and bottle top buttons.

Honestly the best three days ever!

Instead of individual bags - could you do a hamper for the loos?

-Aspirin/paracetamol

  • small bottles of water
  • blister plasters the ones to put in shoes
  • toothbrushes
  • mouth wash
  • breath mints
  • a couple of cheap lipsticks
  • drink-drive alcohol tests (the little tubes you blow in that turn a different color if you're over the limit)
  • a few pairs of cheap flipflops
  • bobby pins
  • a couple of pairs of tights
  • hair spray
  • phone chargers
  • arnica
  • a small sewing kit (like the ones you get in hotels)

if in winter

-little hand warmers that you activate with the magnet(?)t bits

if in summer

  • some cheap kitsch sunglasses
  • suncream
  • mosquito bite stuff
