Hi
So been with my partner over 17 years got three kids and a mortgage but never got married . I HATE public affection , the thought of a big fuss makes me want to puke but I think my children and OH would quite like us to be married (I'm seriously not arsed ) what would be the best low key least peopley (not a word I know) to do it but without huge expense?
Thanks

Find a pretty registry office, have a small ceremony, go somewhere fancy for lunch. After lunch, drive to a nice hotel/cottage somewhere. You only need yourselves and two witnesses.

We went to a registry office with his best friend and my best friend and went for a meal together afterwards

You two, the kids, and a couple of mates or relatives to be your witnesses. Registry office and then a nice lunch at a pub. Simple.

For a registry office do you have to give a lot of notice? And does it get announced anywhere public ? I'm sorry if this sounds daft I've literally no idea!!

Book a holiday and arrange your wedding for while you're away, tell no one until you get back.

I think it’s 3 weeks notice? And I think they put a notice up on a board in the building.

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/11/2018 10:14

A month notice, no it doesn’t get announced anywhere

All couples getting married in England have to give at least a months notice. It will be displayed publicly for 28 days, on a noticeboard in an office somewhere so not obvious.

Your best bet is to phone your local registration office and ask about statutory ceremonies. They all have to offer them, they are very simple and will cost £50 plus the £70 to give notice.
