Bride perfume

I have worn the same perfume since I was 14 years old (I know)! And I fancy wearing something a bit different on my wedding day. I am searching fro something 'glamourous' smelling - if that makes sense! Like a nice fragrance for an evening out. Nothing too musky or sickly sweet.
I also really like the idea that in the future, the smell will remind me of that day.
Would love to hear any tips about what other people wore. Xx

I hadn’t even realised wedding perfume was a thing until recently 🤦🏼‍♀️ Some of my friends used jo malone scents

Shoxfordian · 25/09/2018 13:53

I had some Black Opium recently, was really nice and quite eveningy if that makes sense.

I also like Alien and Pure Poison

Have a trip round a department store and a sniff

SinglePringle · 25/09/2018 13:54

What do you normally wear? Gives us a starting point.

VirginiaWoolf9 · 25/09/2018 15:12

SinglePringle I wear Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden. It's quite a fresh oceanic smell and not actually that floral despite the name. I like fresh type fragrances!

Mummyme thanks - but I'm personally not a huge fan of Jo Malone - whenever I walk past the shop it smells to sickly for me! Plus apparently they don't last.

I bought a new perfume for my wedding day - Chloe (the original Eau de parfum).

I wear it on special occasions.

I think like all perfumes though - it has to suit you.

I wear Daisy Eau So Fresh most days so the Chloe is different enough for me to notice it IYSWIM.

It took me ages to sniff out what I liked though!

SinglePringle · 25/09/2018 17:48

I just typed a huge long reply and lost it Angry!

To summarise... Sunflowers is quite a ‘simple’ scent - it’s pretty without being sugary sweet and doesn’t knock your socks off. You might want to avoid any of the Mugler perfumes!!

The Guerlain ‘Aqua Allegoria’ range. Single notes (lemon, rose, herb, grapefruit, bergamot etc) but with some welly, additional scents, behind them. More complex than Jo Malone (which have limited silage / staying power and do you really want to smell like someone’s candle on your wedding day?!)

Can you get to a Penhaligons? They will really work with you to find ‘your’ scent. One on one service to everyone. They do a lot of ‘if you like this, you might like this’ till you reach a conclusion.

Debenhams also have great perfume departments. Lots of more niche perfumes (less chance of someone saying ‘Oh, you smell like me only Wedding day!). Ditto Liberty if you can get there. Again, very knowledgable and helpful staff.

For my money, try Eau D’Givenchy. Re-released after many years. A beautiful, feminine ‘day’ scent that has a strong Jasmin and grown up undertone. A new, old classic.

If you really want to push the boat out, then try one of the Chanel single notes (Selfridges, Harrods, Kings Cross Station, Harvey Nic’s). Les Baige is amazing and Gardinia will be my wedding scent.

Happy sniffing!

SinglePringle · 25/09/2018 17:53

Oh! Also meant to mention the newest Chloe perfume Nomade.

It’s a bit more complex than the standard Chloe perfume but not overpowering. I detest scents like FlowerBomb, any of the Marc Jacobs, Lancôme, D&G etc - they can smell amazing on others but make me instinctively recoil Blush

Nomade was the first new scent in a long time I loved.

Also, try the Hermes Mervilles range and also their single notes too.

And (finally!) Chanel No19 is hugely underrated but I always get comments when I wear it. It’s a ‘green’ scent with warmth.

VirginiaWoolf9 · 25/09/2018 18:44

Wow, thanks so much SinglePringle! Great tips and you sound like a real expert! I love in N. London so can get to all those places easily! Looking forward to trying some out!

I wore Chanel No 5 and I think of my wedding day every time I wear it now (16 years later) so I think this is a great idea.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 25/09/2018 18:54

Come and talk to us on the Perfumista thread! We have found wedding perfumes before.

I was wearing Chanel Les Exclusifs Bel Respiro the other day and thought "now this would be a wonderful wedding perfume", it's light, fresh, innocent, but utterly glamourous and classy at the same time- as you'd expect from a Chanel. I also love 31 Rue Cambon but that I think is possibly a bit "grande dame" for a wedding scent. The newly released ones are lovely too, especially (IMO) Paris-Deauville.

4160 Tuesdays Doe In the Snow was originally made for a winter bride I believe. I'm not keen, as it gets too sweet (peach) for me. But it is very wedding-y.

If you like fresh citrussy types then give O de Lancome, Eau de Givenchy, Eau de Rochas, Eau d'Hadrien etc a sniff.

SinglePringle · 25/09/2018 19:33

Thanks! Not so much an expert, more that I love perfume (wear it every day, even if just going to local shop / slobbing on sofa). Trouble is, I have a strong reaction to most High St scents (far too flowery, sugary, sweet or, conversely, ‘green’) and find it difficult to find new ones I like. Means I try many!!

I bought a jo malone tester from eBay for a few quid as I didn't wanna fork out for a big bottle (I'm so cheap!!!!) and BLOODY FORGOT TO WEAR IT. I was so worried about being late I ended up forgetting it and my garter!!! X

LarryFreakinStylinson · 28/09/2018 20:49

This was my wedding day perfume and it might fit the bill of what you like www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lancome/O-de-L-Orangerie-11345.html

ChipsAndKetchup · 28/09/2018 20:51

La Vie est Belle by Lancôme. It's classy and I've had so many compliments on it. And it lasts really well.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 28/09/2018 20:54

I had this for mine. I got a taster of it in a Birchbox and fell in love but couldn't afford it for every day.

My husband bought it me as a wedding present and I still adore it!! The first time I wore it properly was the wedding day so whenever I wear it now it brings back memories

English Laundry No.7 for Her Eau de Parfum, 50 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KS4KQ4I/ref=cmswwrcppapi_MAORBbVXR40EW

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/09/2018 20:59

I know it’s a bit of a cliche , I used Beautiful by Estée Lauder

Diorissimo , I think is the one Lady Diana used ( maybe not then )

DD likes Black Opium

SilverHairedCat · 28/09/2018 21:04

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. Its also my every day perfume. Fresh, but warm. Tones of bergamot (my favourite).

Lucked · 28/09/2018 21:09

I think Chanel allure sensuelle is glamorous.

I wore tom ford white patchouli, it has a very distinctive smell and I wear it on anniversaries and special nights, always makes DH smile.

DressDrama · 01/10/2018 10:43

I thoroughly recommend the Jo Malone bridal consultation - its free (there's no obligation to actually buy anything) but it was a great afternoon out with my (now) husband; they talk to you about what scents you usually wear/like; what type of setting your wedding is in then pick out a few based on what you've told them. You can mix fragrances too if you'd like them made sweeter/spicier etc. Free hand scrub, massage and fizz. We both got a cologne and I got the matching body creme - they threw in so many miniatures as freebies I haven't had to open the full sized body creme yet!

Having a wedding scent is lovely; whenever we wear ours it reminds of me wearing it for the first time Flowers

thisisme2018 · 01/10/2018 10:54

I love Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb. Wore it at my wedding and now wear it on nights out. During the day I always wear Chanel Allure.

Ohwhatbliss · 01/10/2018 11:06

I was also keen to get a wedding day perfume for all the same reasons as you having worn Chanel Allure for many, many years. I bought Coco Mademoiselle for my wedding day and my new husband commented during the reception that I didn't smell like "me"

happymummy12345 · 01/10/2018 11:12

I wore my favourite, angel. No question for me

Wrybread · 02/10/2018 08:19

I find most perfumes to floral or too sweet.

I just went shopping for my wedding perfume and ended up with Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme.

Just to warn you I don't like the smell in the first five seconds (it smells 'cold') but then it warms up very quickly to a lovely amber and vanilla. It lasts for ages too.

Eliza9917 · 05/10/2018 05:47

D&G blue is nice & fresh, as is Very Valentino if you can find it anywhere, it was discontinued a few years ago.

I'm having Ralph Lauren glamourous. That's discontinued too but I got a big unopened bottle on ebay.
