Advice for brides

LoveInTokyo · 10/08/2018 14:27

Following on from the "advice to help your guests enjoy your wedding" thread, what advice would former brides give someone getting married tomorrow to help them enjoy the day and ensure it runs smoothly?

Tips to help deal with both practical and emotional issues welcomed!

Thanks.

Don't sweat the small stuff. You've probably spent a lot of time and money planning everything to perfection but it seriously doesn't matter if something goes a bit wrong. Just relax and enjoy it.

The day will go so quickly and will be over before you know it. Remember to take it in and enjoy each precious moment!

If you’re staying at a hotel, remember clothes for the next day. I had to send someone to my house to get mine. Also make sure you get a moment with special family members. It flies by so enjoy every minute. Congrats 😍

Things will go wrong and unplanned things happen. Relax, you're getting married! Nobody is even going to notice that the flowers are the wrong colour (or whatever).

At some stage, probably juat after the ceremony, just take a few minutes to be alone with your groom. Once the photos and celebrations get started, you probably won't see each other for the rest of the night!

Make sure you have the day that you and your partner want , don't do things for other people. Traditions are only important if they matter to you.

Get a good photographer. I love my wedding pictures , they were worth every penny.

Sorry , they were more tips for planning than anything else.

My dh isn’t comfortable talking in front of groups of people with everyone looking at him. So he didn’t do a grooms speech instead I did a speech.

MIL went spare and then got told by my mother to wind her neck in its our wedding not hers. Was the highlight of the day tbh as nobody seems to question or pull MiL on her “opinions”.

I agree with everyone else don’t sweat the small stuff. The day goes so quick it’s not worth stressing over the little things.

Take flip flops for later on as your feet kill you!

You don't 'have to' have anything you don't want or don't care about at your wedding. No one ever went to prison for not having wedding favours or bridesmaids.

And the mood for the day is set by the couple. So the more relaxed and happy they are, the more enjoyable the day seems to be for everyone.

Give photographer a list of photos you want; you will forget on the day, I have none of my brother in law all day :(
