Hoop vs. petticoat/slip under dress? (wedding next week...eeep!)

Hi all, my wedding is next week...I went for a final fitting of my dress over the weekend and now feel like I may have gone for too big of a skirt. The dress is gorgeous, an A-line style that comes in at the waist then fans out with the big skirt/train; I'm wearing a small fishtail hoop underneath to keep it away from my legs/make sure its holds shape.

Not sure if it's just last minute nerves but I'm starting to worry it's TOO princess bride. I didn't feel this way in previous fittings. Wedding dresses aren't exactly usual attire, maybe its just normal to feel a bit awkward in a big white dress and the feelings will have gone by the time the day comes around?

I need to go back on Friday to collect it and am now thinking shall I try wearing something else underneath and see if that makes a difference to how I feel? I believe a small fishtail is the 'narrowest' hoop out there, so maybe a petticoat or slip are my next alternative? Sorry I can't include a pic, my partner knows my username on here!

In this weather a small fish tail hoop will be the coolest option as petticoats are quite bulky and hot ( I wear 50's vintage style every day and layered petticoats are hot)

Try it with something else but do talk to the bridal shop as they will have the better idea of what looks right.

I think you're going to be way too hot with extra layers and what you've got already is probably the lightest and coolest option.

Have you considered buying a second dress? Something from the high street, not too expensive? I had a princess dress and wore it until the evening reception when I changed and it was lovely having the freedom to move around.

Thanks for your responses, wedding is in Ireland which will hopefully be a bit cooler than here (I hope!)

I think I just need to find some confidence and embrace it. Looked back at photos on my phone of a friends' wedding who had 'big skirt' A-line dress on and I think they look ace. When you're the one wearing it I think the feeling is overwhelming/different compared to those that just see you in it! I tried on simpler more understated dresses last year when I started looking and they felt like a 'too safe' option where I'd potentially blend into the background.

An alternative to a hoop or petticoat could be a slip, but think the skirt wouldn't fan out at all and the train may end up looking like less of a smooth incline?

Ruled out wearing a different dress in the evening, I'd just rather have my wedding dress on for the whole day/night.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that it's going to be cool in Ireland. It was over 28 in Dublin yesterday, and so humid that when we took things out of the fridge the moisture air condensed around the cold thing in wispy, foggy swirls.

I would go with the hoop if it gives you the best outline, but if you want to do try it on with petticoats as well just to see what it looks like.

Your hem will change length if you now change what you wear under your dress. If you go for a flatter shape it is likely to be too long. With a week to go don’t expect your seamstress to be able to change the hem!

Is the seamstress room quite small? It can make your dress feel bigger than it will on the day.

It’s the one day you can wear a really big showy dress unless you’re a star actress, so I’d say go for it! Enjoy swooshing around with confidence and I’m sure your photos will show you looking just as fab as your friends did in their dresses!

Oh and have you got a bustle on it? That might help you feel less overwhelmed.

I thought the same about mine but actually if you look at magazines and photos the big dresses look very bridal and beautiful. Especially if you think you will be looking back at them with a different perspective.

I also have a simpler dress but it's easier to pick holes in the style; wrong neckline, fussy lace, too tight etc etc.
A big ole wedding dress is what it is.
