Writing thank you cards

newtothismarriagething · 18/07/2018 13:07

Just writing all our thank you cards. Am I right in thinking I do them for everyone regardless of them either attending / not attending but sending a card / not attending but sending a gift and card??
It's just a standard thank you card anyway from us !

if someone sends you a gift you should say thank you whether they came to your wedding or not

You should thank everyone who got you something/ gave you something

We wrote thank you cards for everyone who came to our wedding. If they bought a gift/gave us a voucher/gave us money I specified in the card (for example, thank you for the money towards lunch on our honeymoon, we found a beautiful little restaurant hidden away on a quiet beach) just make it more personal than "thanks for coming and buying us a gift"

FoxAndBear · 18/07/2018 13:36

Only if they gave you a gift. If they attended but didn't get you anything no need to send one surely! You paid for their food/drink/entertainment for a whole day!

We wrote thank you cards to everyone who gave us a gift.

The guests should, strictly speaking, write thank you cards to whoever hosted them (eg brides parents or bride and groom)

I did thank you cards for anyone who gave gifts (even if they didn’t come)

I'm doing thank you cards for all the above but also people who weren't invited but sent a wedding card (no gifts) - does that sound right

I would send cards to everyone who attended (especially if people travelled a long way), and also to anyone who didn't attend but sent you a present.

I probably wouldn't send a card to someone who couldn't attend and just sent a card. Sending a thank you card to someone for sending you a card is a bit ridiculous. Unless you've got photo cards printed and you just want to say something like, "sorry you weren't able to make it but we thought you might like to have this photo". But even then I probably wouldn't.

The cards I've got are just plain but say "from the new mr and mrs xxx-xxxx ". A good opportunity to explain what our new surname will be anyway! I suppose I'm writing as more of an acknowledgement ? We didn't have many guests at the wedding due to small number of invites. My own grandparents ( who weren't invited ) only sent a card (no gift) and I didn't get anything from the rest of my family.

Nobody seems to send cards these days so maybe I'm just being overenthusiastic 🤔

We will send cards. I think people appreciate them.

We'll be sending cards to everyone who was there and to people who weren't there but who sent a gift. I think it's a nice gesture. We'll personalise each one (but there were less than 50 people in total)
