No mention of gifts in invitation

My partner & I are going to a wedding later this year. The invitation has no mention of gifts at all. What's the etiquette here? Stick some cash in the card? Or nothing? I am used to seeing either gift lists or "please donate to our honeymoon fund"!
If it's relevant, the groom is an old friend of mine and it's a registry office wedding then reception at a nice hotel.
Thanks!

I would probably text and ask if they have a gift list or similar.

You should contact them and ask if there's a gift list. However, if the invitation comes from her or his parents and you have a way to contact them, then strictly speaking you should ask them instead.

We didn't have any mention of gifts in our invitations. We had been living together a while so there was nothing we needed & we just wanted people to come & celebrate rather than worry about gifts.

Some people just gave a card, some gave cash & some gave gifts that they'd chosen themselves.

I'd give them a card and whatever you feel comfortable giving, if they're anything like us they'll just be happy you made the effort to come.

I just give cash.

I say ask them...
A friend of ours did this and I texted to say "is there anything you'd like?" they wanted money for their house renovation so we put a cheque in a card.

Thanks all.

I'd go with cash or John Lewis vouchers.

They probably wanted to ask for cash but didn't want to sound like cheeky fuckers.

Just ask them.
