Cheap & cheerful hotel for wedding - any recommendations?

Wow, hotels are expensive!!

Does a venue like this exist at a cheap & cheerful price....

I don't need flash, my friends will just be happy to be together!

Somewhere nice and clean - but could be a bit shabby round the edges, that'd be fine! Friendly staff, somewhere that can handle DC!

Midlands or the North ideally.

We'll have friends and family coming from all over, and loads of them with young DC so somewhere that's relatively easy to get to from mainline trans / motorways.

We need somewhere with a decent sized function room, and a decent sized room we can use for kids room.

(We're having a very small wedding for the papers on a different day, and will have a humanist ceremony in the hotel, so not worried about where to get married - this is the big bash.)

We don't need all the fancy wedding stuff, just a place to entertain our guests and for them to stay over.

Does this place exist without spending an arm and a leg?

Thanks :)

We stayed at a lovely reasonably priced hotel recently in south Yorkshire called Wortley Hall. It was historically a 'stately home for the workers', apparently.

It looks grand but really wasn't, just down to earth and a bit shabby round the edges but we found it charming, and very reasonably priced. One night B&B for 2 in a double room was around £55.00 in total. Beautiful grounds, nice restaurant and function rooms. Faded grandeur but not at all pretentious.

Ooh, that sounds lovely, I'll have a look, thanks!

I'm calling them this morning!

If anyone else has any other ideas also, I'd be really grateful :)

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. It really was a lovely place.

Awww, they're booked for the dates we want!!

I'm going to have another look at dates, see if we can come up with some more options.

But, if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them!

How about holiday inn corby? They do a wedding package that's a bit cheaper depending on the date you want.

nomorecarrotsticks · 11/07/2018 12:53

I'm guessing Holiday Inn might be too pricey for us. But thanks, I'll check it out and keep my fingers crossed!

Aargh to venue finder websites! They're such a pain to use!

Most of them get you to enter your details then you have to wait for them to contact you for a quote. And most of them make you put in a location that's much too specific!

I just want to know, where are the budget ones!! I've lost count of the time I've spent searching for this!

Youth hostels do weddings... no clue about prices, but I’d assume cheaper than most hotels and they have some lovely buildings...

BikeRunSki · 11/07/2018 14:07

I was also going to suggest hiring a youth hostel. Harrington Hall in Derbyshire is lovely. Ilam Hall nearby is too.

OP, I live near Wortley Hall, it’s gorgeous. I have seen a few weddings there (not been to any), it looks perfect.

nomorecarrotsticks · 11/07/2018 14:25

I did think of youth hostels!

But I wasn't sure if people would want to share dorms, and I wasn't sure about where all the younger kids would go - lots of the kids coming will be too young for bunk beds. Maybe we could bring cots...?

Or am I wrong with thinking most youth hostels are dorms?

Youth hostels tend to be a mix of dorms, doubles/family rooms. They sometimes have pods outside too that sleep from 2-4. Would definitely investigate them if I were you.

There are some very pretty youth hostels aren't there! I've sent a query.

They're gorgeous!!! Those ones in Derbyshire were stunning! 😍

BikeRunSki · 11/07/2018 16:04

Harrington Hall YHA has an adventure playground. We took the DC when they were 2 and 5 ish. IT's ideal for DC. I also know someone who had a very good wedding there.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/07/2018 09:48

Was just going to suggest Hartington Hall. It looks gorgeous!
