We are getting married in Vegas this December. I would get a dress now however I lost 3 stone from breastfeeding my baby, I'm weaning him off now and I'm worried the weight will pile back on! How long realistically can I leave it before buying a dress, or am I already too late?? Blush

If you want a made for you one I think you need to get to the shops asap but if you’re happy to get off the peg and have it altered then you’ve got lots of time.
You could get it in a bigger size then nearer the time they can adjust it. I was pregnant when I bought mine so they ordered it in the size I was then and took it down 2 sizes when I actually got married, obviously it’s easier to take it down than try to find fabric that isn’t there if it’s too small.

If you have a wed2b near you then you take away the dress you try on so you could leave it for a while. You do not need an appointment although I think it can get very busy at weekends.

Typically a made to order dress will take 4 -6 months to arrive, so you have time, just not loads!
In a boutique a made to order dress you can have your pick, with a sample dress; size will dictate whether it will work. (best to be taken in than out)
High street and Wed to be has that flexibility and I've seen some great dresses to be had.
First things first though - go and try some on! Wedding dresses aren't like any other dresses! You can then determine what style and shape suits you and go from there....don't put off going for a try on, most places are lovely and helpful and you will be surprised what you like and don't like!
Remember, anything goes in Vegas! Smile

The bridal shops look at you with horror if come in with less than 9 months.
Truth is that are 1,000s and 1,000s out there. Samples (tried on in shops), off the peg high street, second hand, online, vintage shops, Chinese bargains ( and there are some good places) ...it goes on and on.
If you are buying for Vegas you need something that travels well I guess so I'd spend a bit of time trying some on first and seeing what works in style and fit.
Worry about buying it later.

We ordered my daughter's dress last August, it arrived in January.

Go to a sample sale and see if you can get one that already fits you and doesn't require too much alteration?

Mine is being made. I started trying stuff on 8 months before the wedding, made my final decision 6 months before, have just had my first fitting 3 months before and have a second fitting booked for 6 weeks before. If you aren't having one made then you don't need anything like that much time. If you buy a sample you don't need that much time. Even if you get one made they could probably speed things up and do it in 4 months or so.

I'm getting married in January and got my dress last week. The woman at the shop was Shock that I'd left it so late!

It'll arrive in October. I've just ordered it in the size I am now but I also want to lose weight. It's fine. They can take it in a good three sizes.
