How much booze?

I have 26 attendees who I am accommodating for a champagne toast , to give them all the option, so one glass each.
6 of these attendees are low alcohol or alcohol free because of various things (but may well say yes to the champagne as a one off). For the remaining 20 , how much wine(red and white) should I provide for an evening meal? They have the ability to grab cocktails, beers etc too but I need to make a decision on the wine.

Half a bottle each is a standard amount to provide with a meal. It will balance itself out with the lushes drinking the lightweights' share.

So is a bottle all in each, or half a bottle each?

I did a bottle each of fizz, white and red for all guests including kids.We had a case or two left but it all got used eventually.
Friends were quite big drinkers. We had beer, cider and whiskey as well.

Half a bottle each, so 13 for all of your guests.

Depending on what you're eating and how the tables are laid out (so you can share it round fairly), I might round it up to 14 bottles, half red and half white.

Plus a glass of fizz each as a welcome drink and for toasts. So that's 46 glasses in all, roughly 9 bottles

Half a bottle is only a couple of glasses, though, and if people will be at the table for a few hours, I think they'll drink more than that.

Where will this take place?

secretnuptials · 30/06/2018 16:14

Only one large table , and a proper 3 course meal in the early evening. A couple of pregnant guests and some who don't drink for religious reasons but also some heavyweights too no doubt !!

@HollowTalk in a restaurant setting so a bar will be available plus extra bottles if we need I expect.

We had 40 in total at our wedding and got through 60 bottles of wine, 25 bottles of champagne and about 150 beers.

We did have a last minute panic the night before that there wouldn’t be enough, but there were no complaints.

If it is a paid bar, then I think around a bottle each is generous. I’ve never been a big fan of being restricted to half a bottle.

secretnuptials · 30/06/2018 16:28

I'll be letting my guests know it's a tab on me, so just order whatever. Maybe it'll be beers all round!

It would be a good idea to select the wine in advance, so that you don't have people ordering really expensive wine, OP. Not that I think your guests would take advantage, but it saves any bother when you're paying the bill.

secretnuptials · 30/06/2018 16:35

Yeah I meant more open bar as in for stuff that isn't wine, like cocktails or beer for example. Wine (red and white) and champagne has already been selected by moi.

Sounds like it's going to be a lovely wedding!
