Sweet Carts

Been to visit quite a few venues lately who offer a complimentary sweet cart (although we'd need to provide the sweets).

I've never been to a wedding with one before and I don't get it. Do people take sweets home or are they to eat on the day?

Basically, why is this a thing?

We had a sweet buffet at our wedding as part of a very informal day with lots of 'help yourself' elements.
Those who have a sweetie cart as an incongruous part of a formal celebration tend to use it as an alternative to favours: so personalise the little bags and make everything look 'elegant'.
We just had lots of big sweet shop type jars and chalkboard labels..sort of the opposite of elegant, but elderly ladies stuffed their handbags with sherbet spaceships so I think it was enjoyed.

Do people take sweets home or are they to eat on the day?

If we go for a sweet cart, I think I'll go as retro as I can with the sweets.

I've been to a couple of weddings where a sweet was put in as a help yourself pick n mix. It was lovely but what really stood out was a couple of greedy fuckers who filled bag after bag even after been asked to leave some for the kids

I genuinely liked it and it offered something different for those who didn't like the puddings

Fuck knows. I hate sweet carts. And photo booths. No disrespect to anyone having them, I just can't see the point in them or why people now view them as essentials.

Every wedding I’ve been too that has had one, they have been a huge hit. I think if you have a few children attending especially they are a nice novelty but always please the adults too!

Normally they have had either boxes or bags for you to fill with your choice of sweets

Zap sweets have some awesome sweet selections! Most come in 3kg bags so if you’ve got a sweet tooth it would be rude not to at least try a few!!! 😂

Me too. And every wedding seems to feature these as you say. Inflatable guitars and oversize 'zany' glasses get a bit old by the 10th wedding.

It's not so much the props themselves that I hate, its the way that they are viewed as 'essentials' now.

On some of the wedding facebook pages you see people posting about how they are scrimping and saving to pay for their wedding but they are having light up LOVE letters, a candy cart and a photobooth as well as 'will you be my BM' boxes, BM & GM boxes for the day, robes, slippers and hangers and none of those are essential imo.
